What is this wire?

So I was under the truck tonight, chasing this oil leak and I noticed a loose wire. It was bolted to the frame and it wasn't going to anything. What is this wire's purpose?

I also took out a broken reservoir that I think was for the headlamp washer fluid. It was above the driver side fender and had a pump attached to it in the front. There was an electric plug that connected to the pump(yellow bottom circle) and another plug(red top circle) that connected to this black plastic piece(pictured) on the back side of the reservoir. Do I need to cover these plugs with electric tape? Is it safe to leave these plugs undone without anywhere to go until I get this replaced? I will be driving the vehicle..

I also sprayed the engine with engine cleaner and rinsed it off as much as I could. Is there a wrong way to clean the engine? I know it's supposed to be at a cold temp but that's about all I know. What's the best method to get into the tight spots without using steam?

I've also got the 2f engine emission control manual, 2f engine repair manual and the maintenance procedurces manual. Is there another manual that has all the pieces, parts and such for the entire vehicle named so if I want reference I can look in there?

What's the best method to get into the tight spots without using steam?

The wire looks like the ground cable that goes from the frame to the starter.

I use an old toothbrush to get into the tight spots when cleaning the motor.

Your circles are for the headlight washer reservoir for spraying your headlights. There should be a tank there like the one on your passenger side for the windshield. some cruisers did not come with that option but were wired for it still. the hose goes to the squirters on the front end under the head lights.

wire looks like it goes from the fire wall to the head??? to much snowcap for me tho .

first pic looks like ground cable that runs from under truck body to trans or tansfer case? I would have to crawl under there to look again but I recall seeing somthing like that on my truck?

First pic is definitely the ground cable that goes from the frame to the tcase. Mine is currently disconnected as I am doing the 5.3 swap, but I'm quite sure it mounts up to the back of the tcase somewhere as that is the only place it can reach.

Edit: I take that back, it looks like the same wire on the frame going to the tcase, but you have pictured the oil cooler which is on the passenger side of the engine. So that must be the ground that goes from the fender over to the motor. I believe there is a bolt that the ground wire from the battery attaches to and I think this one attaches to it and then attaches to the motor, so find a bolt on the motor nearby that has a good ground and put it there. Just make sure there is at least a little slack in the wire.

It definitely comes from the frame. It isn't a long wire. I will see if I can take a better picture today. Can I cover those electric plugs with tape and be ok to drive this around?

The red circle goes to the little bugger your holding in your hand in the last picture. It's the AC idle up. If you dont need it, I will gladly take it off your hands. Let me know.

What is the AC idle up? It was connected to the headlight washer reservoir. I plan on replacing the reservoir sometime so I can re use this piece. I'll let u know if I change my mind.

Do you use A/C in WY???

A/C idle up increases RPM at idle when the ac is on.

first pic is a ground strap. on mine it is connected to the PS inside fender right next to the battery and goes down underneath the A/C pump sort of next to the idler pully. held on with a big bolt. thing in your hand is the A/C idle up like dbleon said. it may have been attatched at the same point as the headlight washer reservoir but they are not related.

iffin you look at a bosch system , turbo VW , Volvo etc , that type of valve is used to control turbo lag bleed , there tossed on most bone yard cars.

The A/C Idle Up just happens to be bolted onto the body through the headlight washer reservoir. Reattach it with the same bolt and it should have two vacuum lines running towards the motor. That should be in one of the manuals that you have.

The first wire is a ground wire. From the frame to the starter.

I have a few connectors on my fender un-taped and they are fine. Tape them if it makes ya feel better; I'm too lazy

It sounds like he is saying the A/C idle up is a type of valve that is used in other applications. I would only want to use an OEM part for the A/C system on our trucks though.

Thanks guys for the info! When I get home I will reconnect the idle up. I have used the A/C on a cold day to defrost the window .

Can someone have a look at their AC idle-up connector and tell me what color the wires are? The colors listed in the FSM do not appear in my harness. I have torn into the harness looking for the connector or the terminated wires and have had no luck. And yes, the truck did have factory AC. And yes, this is a diesel conversion and all of the connectors have been cut.
