Im rebuilding my birfs and when I put it back together the axle is rubbing on the inside of the spindle. I am looking at the schematic below and I noticed that I didnt have (or lost while taking apart) the bushing that goes between the axle and spindle, part #43413A. Now im wondering if thats why it is making noise. This is kind of a repost so sorry for that. My other post had a different title. Thanks everyone for the help on the other thread. I will tear the other side apart tomorrow to see what the deal is. Any ideas on what this bushing is for?
Thanks,
Paul

The bushing holds the birf centered in the spindle. Without it, it would likely make noise and potentially eat the axle seal, and can't help the hub. definately want one of those!

thanks Brett! I think thats what I wantid to hear. I will shoot over to toyota on monday

It is a bronze bushing that is press fit into the back side of the spindle. I doubt it is missing. If you do replace it it MUST be reamed to fit the birfield.

when the spindle is off the axle sounds fine but when I put it on it is that metal on metal sound. I see the bronz looking bushin. It has some grooves on the inside of the bushing like an x that goes around the entire inside of that bushing. Im just wondering why im getting that contact and i wonder if it will go away after i put the rotor and the rest of the assemby back together.

Already answered some on that other post. You need to grease it well when assemblying, those are grease grooves.

I very much doubt you are missing anything as you only pulled the front end apart yesterday. Try greasing the spindle and puttting it together, the freewheeling hub circlip pulls the birf out when properly assembled, make sure the birf is not hitting the back because it is too far into the hub..............................

If you don't have the lockout hub in place you may be hearing the splined part of the birf hitting the inside of the spingle on the outboard side. It holds the end of the birf centered in the spindle at the outboard side like the bronze bushing holds the bell end centered on the inboard side. Also a good point brought up is that if the birfield slides into the knuckle it can make noise too, having a "martack" on the inner axle and/or the c-clip in the lockout hub keeps the birf from sliding back into the housing.
