Anyone knows what this is? It seems that it is supposed to be there when you look at the metal strip but it's very much in the way and I want to take it out. Curious what it might be though. It's on a 1995 VX Auto with dual ac.
Thanks

I have a 90 VX limited and i went outside just now to check, i do not have that. just normal screws.

The previous owner could have fashioned that up as maybe a tie down for cargo or something. You never know with these trucks. I would pull the plate off and see if you can simply remove it so you down slice your knee crawling up there one day.

I'm also jealous you have a white vx. I searched for a while and couldnt find one before i grew impatient.

Looks like an alarm sensor to me.
Any wires below it ?

I was thinking it came from the factory this way as there is more space between the elevated ledges where that thing is compared to where the screws are. Also it’s kind of countersunk.

Most of the 80 series Land cruisers here in SA are white, but VX’s are rare I believe. Mine is an Australian import

I would guess it isn't aftermarket as the plate has a contour around the opening. I know some of the oversees versions came with various kits for the rear (e.g., my guess would be this was an active vacation model) and the stud held a portion in place. @cruiserdan might be able to shed light. I also recall @Outono sold a kit a few years back, if he still has the truck could possibly verify.

I believe I may have been wrong. IIRC the vacation never came with rear seat accommodations and yours clearly had seats and belts, oddly I do not see the anchor point cutouts on the floor. Also, the passenger side panel I have seen wit the vacation is different where the rear speaker was integrated to the kitchen side (not having seen a model with the package taken out I cannot say if the side panel was stock behind).

@ikarus Can you chime in on this? I know your vx is a 95+ with vacation
Don't mind the mess, this was after I pulled out the Active Vacation stuff and gave it its first deep clean since it arrived from Japan. But yeah you can see on mine that there's nothing there in that indentation in the sill plate. Must be aftermarket, not sure.

Aha that indentation is there anyway. Didn't know that. Still mine has a recession / contour as well 🤔. But could still be aftermarket of course. I will try to take it out this weekend.

I don't know what it is but I do know it's not a factory-installed item.

EDIT: incorrect. See directly below.

Found a post on it.

Thats pretty rad. So the bolt blocks the spare tire port above the bumper. They could have made it a little nicer looking/a little shorter haha.

Ahaaaa yes that makes sense. So mine is in the ‘unblock’ position as I can lower my spare without a problem and that would also explain why it’s in the way as it is supposed to be down in the ‘blocked’ position during everyday use. Thanks so much for finding this!

Hahaha, this is the bolt I have been on a crusade (ha) trying to replace on mine. It’s a bolt to prevent theft of the spare tire, as posted above. Where is your Cruiser from? This only existed in “sus” markets AFAIK, so mine is from the Gulf and they usually had it. US/JP did not. It basically needs a new metal plate and obv the bolt which is stripped in my case which makes me sad. I think it’s a cool, but useless, feature. Especially since you probably have a rear door mounted spare too. So they could just take _that_ spare :D

If it came from Australia, i don't believe it would have the active vacation package
