What Is the Purpose of This Section of the Tail Light on LX 570 LEDs?

This area of the LED tail light (picture) does not light up. It is not brake, turn signal, or reverse lights. I turned on fog lights too just in case like some European cars there is a brighter red fog light on the driver side. Nothing lights up.

Is it part of a non-US LED turn signal? Is it brake force (stronger braking causing a brighter secondary light to come on)? Any ideas?

Thank you and apologies in advance if I have posted this in the wrong forum.

I think it's fine here...model-specific forums get a lot more traffic than lighting.

I'd find some pics of european, ME, and Japanese versions...I haven't noticed anything special as to that area other than decorative.

LX's have had rear fogs since, I think, 2013. On Cruisers, that space is a simple reflector. You can add Lexus rear fogs if you feel spendy, or these for probably a little less than half price...LED Rear Fog Light Tail Light fits Toyota Land Cruiser LC200

I've seen european cruisers with a rear fog on the driver's side, and a white (maybe backup) light on the passenger's side.

Thanks....I have tried to find Russian pictures as they sold a good many there, but no luck finding photos. I have a few Japanese pictures, but I am not seeing anything special in them:

Try a search on u-tube...tons of Russian reviews about cruisers and lx's.

On my LC, that is the backup light housing...so it DOES have a function. What I don't have...are the two lights around the license plates that I think are you back-up lights. Looks like at some point, Lexus decided to add the backups around the license plate never got around to redesigning the panels you point to.

That is just too lazy. They are still riding the coattails of their brand, and not paying attention to details. If I was more handy, I would get in there and see if I can wire it up to be part of the turn signal, next to which it sits. Replacing the bulb in the current single with LED and lighting up that section would be a nice combo.

Ya, I dunno. I think it fits with the outer clear lights and completes the line. Not really doing any harm... I wonder why they felt the need to add back-up lights around the license plate...

Can you see in you LC if there is a removable LED module? If possible to remove, I would not mind adding additional rear lights. I just cannot stand form without function. Thank you for solving the mystery.

I bet its an extra lens area for law enforcement lights or military/UN blackout lights for NV.
Nope. Fog lights. In many countries when you have fog lights on, rear have an extra tail lights on which are brighter than normal tail lights. Not applicable in US. As well like on my BMW it may have hard braking lights which normally do not come on unless you are slamming on brakes.

My hypothesis: sole purpose of that piece is aesthetics; to add "flow" from the turn signal/indicator into the main body of the rear light. White to red would look odd and ruin that flow. White to white looks smoother/better.
