Hi,
any one know what is the purpose of the device called clutch accumulator that sits on top of the clutch master cylinder on a HZJ77,the line go from the master to the accumulator and then out to the slave.
can l bypass it??
TIA

any pics? its not what they put on some 60 series as well to make the clutch pedal lighter?

l don't have picsnow,can get later today.

Is that the square thing at the end of the master cylinder. If it is what I think it is it is suppost to dampen the clutch operation reducing any shuddering.

it is bolted to the 2 bolts of the master cyl with a bracket, sits on top of the master,l installed a turbo and intercooler so the accumulator is in the way,l removed it and l will testdrive in the next few days to see how the clutch feels without the accumulator.

Simon,
How is the clutch without the accumulator?
I'm about to eliminate this but there must a purpose for this thing. I'm in dilemma. ? ?
My clutch tends to go higher and higher as I depress for engagement. Seems like the fluid is not returning to the reservoir as before and encounter slippage in 4 and 5 gear on flat land.
I'm fully confident this accumulator must be the culprit.

I found this on the 4x4 community ZA on the toyota page. If its the problem , I would replace it rather than remove it.

Accumulators rely on the action of a piston or a valve to delay the delivery of high pressure to a clutch or band. An accumulator works like a shock absorber and cushions the application of servos and disc packs. An accumulator cushions sudden increases in hydraulic pressure by temporarily diverting some of the apply fluid into a parallel circuit or chamber. This allows the pressure to gradually increase and provides for smooth engagement of a brake or clutch

It seems most Toyotas have them now.

the clutch works find without the accumulator.

FYI, when I bypassed my clutch accumulator while waiting for part from Japan, all I needed was an M10 1mm thread female to female brass coupler with a 20mm depth; I removed piping from clutch accumulator, loosened existing pipe coming out below reservoir of clutch Master Cylinder and tilted back a bit towards radiator, gave the tube a tweak to line up with brass coupler and then gave the other tube a tweak at top of brass coupler to line them up, then fastened them into brass coupler and then tightened the one for tilting back towards radiator.
