Hi Everyone,

I just picked up a 99 LC with 158k miles last weekend (started a thread about it, still haven't gotten around to pics but I will...sorry guys).

I previously owned an 02 (bought used @55k miles in 2008) and the only non-maintenance repair it required was on O2 sensor that I stupidly traded away last year. It had 115k miles when I let it go.

The reason I was comfortable buying the 99 is that I am well aware that a cared-for Cruiser can see 300k miles plus.

But I am curious...

For those of you with older/higher mileage 100's, what repairs have you needed to make?

Bought my '98 with 135K, has 212K now, and have replaced the following:
Front p/s sway bar link
Front & rear brake pads
Front d/s axle
Rear rotors
Rear d/s wheel seal
Rear pinion seal
Muffler

I intend to change the following:
Timing belt/water pump/pulleys
Front & rear shocks
Transfer case output seal

I put her through the ringer earlier this year, and it shows.

I've had three collisions (two involving deer) and did the body work.

I just passed 180K this week. I wheel my 100 a little harder than most. Besides routine maintenance, I haven't really replaced anything that has failed due to age or mileage. All things considered, even after a dozen CV's, a few sets of tires, and a lot of body work...it has never left me stranded, by far the most reliable vehicle I've ever driven. Toyota didn't care about horsepower, cornering, nor gas mileage...this truck was engineered to last a lifetime of the owner. Every OEM part I have removed has not been due to age or failure, it's either upgraded or broken while wheeling. I don't plan on selling it, I don't plan on easing up on the wheeling.

That being said...my long list is:
Starter : 38K (2002)
Exhaust Manifolds (2004)

180k? is that even broken in? Title said "high mileage"

I bought a 2000 with 125k now 190k.
brake pads/rotors all the way around
ALL the fluids/filters, including the trans filter
both front drive shafts( if I had to remove them to put new boots on, I changed them)
and new tires
Lasted 4 years and 65k.
I just replaced the front rotors and pads(slee drilled rotors), timing belt service and new tires/wheels within the last 3 monthes. I'm ready for 4 more years of only oil changes!
I have a set of front cv's that need only boots and a set of lc 16inch wheels if anyone is looking. 5 wheels if you have an 18inch for a spare in trade

208k (more like 220k with larger tires.)
2 alternators
1 starter
1 radiator
bunch of tires
steering wheel
side panel in driver seat (the leather panel you slide across everytime you get in and out)
headers
bunch of brakes

I've....Oh wait, do I qualify not quite 150,000 yet. I'll be back...........

I'm just over 200k, bought at 165k.

Off the top of my head I have done (had to do vs. elective, that's a much longer list):

Throttle motor or APPS or TPS (replace entire Throttle Body)
Starter contacts
A wheel speed sensor
Lower Ball Joints
Upper Ball Joints
Front Sway bar was broken when purchased (removed not replaced).
Tail Gate Cables (one snapped while tailgating).
Steering Rack Mounts.
Rear Muffler.
Rear Diff Actuator failed and was rblt.
Parking Break froze and was rblt.
Heater T's (one bad, one OK, typical).
Lots of Key Shells.
A few interior bulbs.
A Coil Pack.
Front Diff Mounts.

Should fix:
Passenger seat belt worn out (bought it that way).
Cat Shields, rusty/rattle.
Needs Brake MC rbld.
Rear Quarter Window slop 1 side.
Cracked Windshield.
Horn (low tone is out)

This is just repairs or failures, maintenance items not included (nor the trans pan that some PO stripped the plug threads on).

Over the last 16 years / 280k miles:

Starter at 75k
Brakes, front and rear, a few times
1 muffler
Timing belt, water pump, tensioner at 106k and 210k
A few sets of tires
1 low beam headlight bulb.
Wipers
Lots of fluids
Lots of gas
1 key that I wore out
2 batteries for car
8 batteries for remote
2 tail gate gas struts
4 air filters
and the rest of the normal maintenance stuff

That's it.

191k on my '99 that I have owned since 30k miles.

Not including maintenance, brakes, tires, batteries or timing belts:

•Steering rack @180k
•Cylinder for key start (I guess it wore out because the vehicle started so much?) ;)
•One set of CV joints

That's it.

155k on mine which I bought new. Outside of normal maintenance/consumables, I can remember only the following:

1. Power antenna, repaired by local mechanic.
2. Some electrical/ignition part - several years ago, can't remember exactly what it was, but wasn't expensive.
3. Front differential at about 150k.

258k bought at about 50k. I use mine as my only vehicle for daily driver, hunting vehicle, and occasionally towing a pop up camper.

1. Transmission at about 160k
2. timing belt, water pump @ 160k and again @ 240k
3. front seat covers (wet okle)
4. alternator (at least 1)
5. starter
6. radiator at ~220k
7. stereo
8. 3 front windshields
9. 1 rear window
10. Headlight bulbs

Broken:
1. antenna motor
2. ticking at startup, probably exhaust manifold
3. "D" light doesn't light, never has
4. Landcruiser name is missing D across the back tailgate

6. radiator at ~220k

Funny, my "D" light has never worked either. :hhmm:Would you mind sharing the maintenance on above items..IE..how often, what type/brand fluids and procedures used prior to replacement.

Mine neither. I thought that was a standard feature. All the other lights work fine.

Idk about needed to make. I did them all preventatively while trying to solve another problem or as a while you're in there item.

hood and liftgate supports
Rear windshielf washer hose
Starter
Ignition rod
all bushings
steering rack
ball joints
tie rods
fuel filter
Control arms
headlights
tail light bulbs
interior bulbs
Heater T-Hoses
TPS sensor
APS sensor
O2 Sensors (x4)
Headers
Shocks
Torsion Bars
Rear coils
Radiator cap

My hdj100r has 274000 km, whatever that is in miles. Did front brake rotors and pads all round when I got it at 260000km, shocks are getting done this weekend. A rat has chewed through a vacuum sensor on the air cleaner but it doesn't bring up error codes or anything so meh. Other than that it all still looks original. Nothing major replaced.

For the transmission I bought a replacement OEM transmission through a friend who is a mechanic and he installed it. Transmission has been fine but had a couple of issues immediately afterwards but got them worked out. Cruise control linkage had to be adjusted and O2 sensor harness was failing until I mated/demated the connectors a couple of times.

For radiator I bought an aftermarket one from "Radiator Barn" for about $170 shipped. It fit perfectly and had no problems. I think I had to find some foam that I wasn't able to peel off my old one.

Thank you for your response, it was very informative.

I'm afraid I was not clear in what information I was looking for. What I'm interested in; is any clues to why these two original equipment items (Transmission & radiator) failed. If you can share with us what maintenance was performed for the 160 & 220K miles before replacing them, the maintenance history.

:confused:How often was transmission system fluid flushed, was all 12 qt flushed or the drain & fill 4qt method used, which type/brand ATF was use each time and were any additives ever added too transmission fluid?

:confused:Same question on radiator; how often flushed, flushed with tap water or distilled water or machine flush, how much coolant each time, which coolant each time ie Toyota red LLC or Pink LLC or SLLC or was non dealer coolant (antifreeze) like green or orange after market etc.... ever used?
