What have you repaired/replaced on your high-mile Cruiser?

My experience with vehicles driven either off road or on really rough roads is that the radiator will eventually fail due to vibration. You'll know when it starts - leaks from the core become quite noticeable. That being said, I drove a lot of miles in South America in my FJ60 using nothing but stop leak for a fix.

In the last 200k miles out of 249k total miles I have never drained and filled tranny nor the radiator. I have also had zero problems with both. I think that is the key.

What? 249k miles with no new tranny fluid or coolant? Crazy...

If you can share with us what maintenance was performed for the 160 & 220K miles before replacing them, the maintenance history.?

Transmission fluid was flushed once between 60k and 160k but don't remember the details. No additives.

For the radiator, I think I flushed it at least 3 times, once when I replaced the fan clutch, which I didn't have on my list which was probably around 200k miles. Flushed with distilled water. I used the Toyota Red.

Thanks for the info.

Just a few things since purchasing Mr Bubbles new in1998.

My apologies for being somewhat lax in entering more recent data...

Best vehicle ever, and he followed an '88 FJ62.

I suspect that is the case for me. My hunting trips usually have a 20-30 mile stretch over washboard roads and even at lower speeds it just rattles everything on the truck.

Radiator failed with a good leak at the header tank in mine at around 200K of nothing but highway driving including lots of towing. I may just be heat cycles that kills them, but I'm sure the washboards and flexing over extreme terrain might speed the failure too.

First coil pack just went out went on cylinder #8 at 260,431 miles. Also rear diff shaft seal went at 260,000. Fan clutch at 258,000.

. Is that showing over $100,000 in repairs? Hard to read.

No as the first line shows 56k for buying LC off the lot. The second 27k lease buy back is the confusing question. 100-83 is roughly 17k in parts and labor.

I bought my '99 in the Spring with 134,000 miles here in Phoenix, and almost immediately had a broken steering lock in the ignition which left me in a local shopping center. Fixed that and performed routine maintenance with a brake fluid flush (LOTS of crap came out) before driving with a small flatbed trailer to Massachusetts with zero issues. While in Mass. had the front axles changed because the boots were torn. Would have done it myself except didn't have a garage. Rear axle has a leak which I will fix later. In September had the brakes flushed again and then drove from Mass. to North Dakota. Got as far as Ohio when the master cylinder failed. Had it replaced at the dealership in Maumee, Ohio for $3600!!!! Then drove to ND and finally back to AZ a few weeks ago with no issues. Truck now has 164,000 miles and does not use 1 drop of oil between changes.

Interesting on your brake issue^^.

Toyota 2005 - 2007 (not the series 100) had recall. This was due to master leaking when aftermarket brake fluid added to top off (Topping off should never be needed) Cause failure of seals due to probable chemical reaction.
