my 75 40 has a bad valve for the heat. been rusted shut for a long time, anyway was wondering what to do for replacement on the cheap. it is acceptable to just put a petcock style valve in there right(not a resto or anything), just want heat for plowing?

Yep, just put a ball valve in place of the original and call it a day.

If all you want is heat for plowing, then any old valve will work. Petcock, ball valve--whatevs. A few of our older trucks (40's and 50's) used a similar setup, in that if you want heat, you open the hood and open a valve. When you are done with heat, you open the hood and close the valve.

I'm guessing you don't need selectable heat, either, so you may not even need a valve at all, unless you intend to drive it in the summer.

will be drove in the summer. so the heat on all the time in the winter is fine as long as i can turn it off in summer. was test driving it after a repair with the wife and turned on the blower fan just to see if it worked.........huge cloud of dust blew into our faces, dirt in my eyes and mouth. i was laughing although the wife didnt think it was to funny.

Heater valve

I decided to put the valve in the cab. I used an inline ball valve from ace hardware and some 1/2" copper pipe.
heater valve close up.webp
