Been out of town all month. Last week got a call from a long time customer worth flying back in country for. Today mocking them up.
tracks are kinda the ultimate and would love to have a set, then I have flashbacks of hours spent on a pressure washer as a kid trying to get frozen mud out of the tracks on a dozer
We just ordered a new SXS with tracks to access some of the remote tower sites during the winter. I just keep thinking that if it gets stuck I'm going to have to call SAR to get me out.
oh my, what a kick that'll be. be sure to have ski's or snowshoes with you. when i was a kid i had some older farmers that kinda took me under their wing, most nights were spent chasing hounds and after chores chasing foxes or whatever they could think to do. anyway i don't remember what pu they used but they farmerized it and took a set of old tractor tires and stretched them over the tires. then they seperated the brakes so each side had a lever for steering. sure wish i had a picture of it. only issue was if you tried to turn too sharp or if you took any air it would throw a track. how we survived , the stories of chasing dogs riding mules lol.
The hummers are mainly planned for groomed trails. Fortunately when they do break down or get stuck they have 2 PistenBullys on property to drag them back to the shop. Just getting one setup next week but as long as they like it they want me to get the other one on tracks as well.
I ended up acquiring a set of 6 bolt Toyota tracks a few months ago. Not enough snow yet. But will mount on one of my Lexus when there is. Don’t really need them for anything but don’t have a good reason not to.

Very cool! I always dreamed about buying or building a set of tracks for the Cruiser, but then I ended up buying an old Thiokol 601 instead. Probably would have been quicker to build my own tracks than restoring the Thiokol, I've had it for almost 4 years and haven't touched it yet! Someday though...
Finished up the cage today. Now it just needs paint and assembled.

Seven hundred miles on 37s in the snow
Put down my name for a Doomsday Diesel R150f to TDI adapter kit to replace the ACME kit I've been running for the past 60k km. Ordered all the transmission and transfer case gaskets, seals and stake nuts necessary to replace my input shaft bearing. Hope to have the Prado back on the road in about a month and a half.

Testing went great. Customer loved it. Enough I’m getting another set for the other truck. Then I have to completely disassemble so they can be powder coated orange. Has to match the logo apparently.
We got a new vehicle at work. Now the commute is a lot less stressful and requires less digging.
Sam made it home for a few days and that usually means a project, i had previously bought a shackle reversal kit from jerimiah for the 40. I had forgotten about it and was on the shelf. He decided this was the time so off we go. I was kinda nervous cutting off the spring hangers and welding in the new ones but proffitt’s include 11 pages of details and pictures which makes it not bad.
Like a idiot when we built this car i had envisioned putting a 8274 with cable on it, used the heavy ome springs in the front and regular on the back, not a good combo with a light weight winch and I usually have a trailer on the back. After re assembling the front end and seeing the ready for takeoff angle of attack the light clicked on for both of us that we had forgotten to remove the extra leafs. Have I mentioned that I’m sometimes an idiot, anyway we had to remove both spring packs and disassemble them to remove the 2 on each extra leafs. Of course by now the ubolts didn’t want to accept the nuts so off to tnt we go. Take it for a test drive and i have to admit that it really does help the ride, it seems to soften the jolt when you hit a pothole or washboard. So we pull back into the shop and are looking at the leafs we had removed from the front, since we’re already pissed off and hate the world we both agreed that we might as well put them in the rear where I should have done years ago. Started to reassemble the pack and discovered that the center bolts are too short duh. Off to tnt we go again, finally got it finished sometime after midnight last night, took it for a drive this morning and id say it was worth doing. It definitely has a different ride, smoother I think is the best description. It’s still swb so nothing you can do about that, easily anyway. I was telling sam that over all id say it was worth doing, money wise and bang for the buck I think I’d have been better off with just removing the extra leafs and then doing a ubolt reversal

I’m really glad we removed all the spring packs, all the center bolts were bent and ready to break. Tnt in belgrade is a lifesaver, they will bend you your ubolts as you wait and have whatever else parts you need. One other thing that is going to hurt is I am having to have a 1” longer driveshaft built, kinda expensive way to replace u joints. The splined end would pull out. Since Tom retired and sold out to inland that’s our driveshaft place to go. Gus is running that department so that’s a good deal
