found this unplugged while looking at vacuum lines.
what does it do? should it be connected? sorry about the bad cell phone pictures.

truck is a 92, 22RE

Relatively sure that it's the VSV for the AC idle up. Does the AC still work?
 
I'd bet money that it's the AC idle up VSV, if the AC still works it must be connected if not then when the RPM drops at idle the AC compressor will cut off.

Thanks for the replies... AC does work but as you can see in the pictures, VSV is not plugged in and i cannot find the wire that connects to it.

It's part of the engine harness, so look for it down in the intake somewhere.

Also, try jumpering it straight to the battery with the engine running. The idle should go up when you connect it, and you can adjust the amount that it increases with that white knob on the intake plenum (where the hoses are connected). If it doesn't go up, then the VSV might be burned out, which happens often (I've burned up 2 of them).
 
AC will still work without the VSV, the engine just doesn't idle up.
 
it's on the main harness I think .. same as the single wire to the compresser

Connector is on the EFI/engine harness, not the main harness.
