What do you use to clean under the hood?

i use the cheap vatozone engine degreaser...seems to work better than the brand name stuff, then rinse with garden hose, wipe dry important or pretty parts, and when rubber stuff is dry, spray with on of a gun.

Me too, but it's not the best way to clean it!:D

For me my solvent of preference is hot h2o ... I installed hot & cold temp exterior hose faucets on my house and hook the hot water up to my pressure washer ... it is hard on the pressure washer's pump but I only run it like that for ten minutes or so. Between the super hot water and the moderately high pressure (nothing more that 1500 psi and a fan nozzle as opposed to a jet nozzle) my engine is about as clean as clean gets with no harmful effects from harsh solvents. I use a strong synthetic detergent like green Zep available at Home Depot. It works well and does not degrade the plastic like gunk engine foam cleaner does.

Occasionally? try everytime we wheel! :D

I just use a pressurized spray bottle (like you use on bugs, bushes, etc.) loaded with dish soap and water. You get nice even coverage and it does not mess with the rubber, plastic and metal. Let it sit 20 minutes and spray it off w/ water hose (prefer hot). It does a nice job. For underneath I use a commercial degreaser called blister which is much like the green stuff..

I use Zep Formula 50. (I don't dilute it cos I'm usually cleaning construction equipment.)
I recommend you do dilute it. 10:1 or so. Spraying it on a warm engine works better. Let it soak til cold, then hit with pressure washer.
For stubborn spots, I use break clean.
For really stubborn spots, I use carb clean.
If those don't work, I use a razor blade.

Brilliant...dishwashing liquid! Why didnt I think of that. Duh
