What do you do with your key chain/fob when you're driving?! (1 Viewer)

It has been reported here many times that it is not possible to use the LX570 "Card Key" you pictured with an LC200.

Please provide your source for the Card Key, and how it can be programmed to work with the LC200.

Do you have knowledge of this actually working? Or are you just hopeful that it might work?

TIA for any clarification.

Bought a used key card HYQ14CBB on ebay, got it unlocked by Stu, Programmed it myself using Techstream version 9 just like this guy. (For some reason Techstream version 14 Utility doesn't show up). This is for my 2019 US spec LC with HYQ14FBA original key fob.

Yea you can program the Lexus key card to the LC if you want to. I'm a little pedantic in that I don't fancy Lexus logos on my Toyota, or vise versa. But.. yea you can program the key card to the LC.

However, it's easy to end up in a situation where it won't work... and it can easily become a challenge.

The trick is getting a compatible key card. Lexus makes them for a wide range of vehicles and Toyota is all over the place with transponder technology. Even though they mostly look the same, they may not be on the inside.
i.e. Between 2002-2009 they used 40-bit encryption on the LC. 2010-2015 they did 80-bit. Now they do 128-bit AES.

Having said that- if you get a card key for a 2015 LX570 it will work for a 2015 LC200.

Also get one that is not used. Or you do have to fiddle with getting it unlocked. Toyota wants you to buy one, use it once, and never again... If curious about the "locked" vs. "unlocked" let me know, I can dive into the weeds.

Another rare pitfall is not having any open slots for programming. Toyota lets you program up to 7 keys. Depending on history - there could be old keys in the system and the slots could be full. Techstream will tell you if that's the case, however, and let you wipe all the slots.

So if you get a compatible card key that is un-used or unlocked, you can program it.

This one for example, fresh in the bag, would work for a 2010-2015 LC. Just need tech stream and a cable to program.

Last tip- the compatibility on eBay can sometimes be BS. It's good to cross check part numbers on manufacturer parts sites to verify. Or buy direct from a dealer...

For reference on others doing this- This is a Prius, but you get the gist.

Here's what I ended up doing for this and other storage. Works good for me.
I know this is a non-issue for most. But it was a fun project for me to figure out and add a little extra storage.

This is what I used. I used self adhesive velcro to secure in place. I can always remove later if I need to.
