@wngrog made a very convincing argument about fitting the 5 speed into my ‘75 and suggested the upgrade of using 3.70 gearing in the differentials. I have the diff’s in the garage and will be tackling this shortly…thanks to @Yotajeff for his efforts locating them for me. Something to consider in your list…as for the rear heater….100%.

Decades ago those -20*F days and nights were actually comfortable in the 40 with that rear heat.

I’ve been picking up used parts off the mud classifieds.

I’ve got all the rest heater components other than the heater itself.

And @Vulcan sent me a pile of cluster/ dash goodies

Happy to not have any cracks and hopefully a speedometer that’s more accurate.

I went ahead and put led lights in as well as touched up the needle paint.

Lost about 47,000 miles on the swap. I looked at correcting the mileage. However didn’t have the patience to spin the speedometer for hours.

For future notes.

When I bought it the mileage showed - 79,874
Mileage when swapped Speedo- 80,477

New Speedo - 33,845

I would estimate I’ve put approximately 1,200-1,500 miles on it since I got it going. I’ve drove it more without a working speedometer than with.

Washed the salt off yesterday.

Still daily driving it. Still enjoying it.

Really wanted to sit down and access my goals for this thing. It “needs” nothing. Other than some oil leaks fixed, valve seals (I think), and rear wheel bearings/ shafts. WELL a rear heater would be nice on these teen mornings.

I want 35s, 60 axles, 5 speed, v8..

You forgot 4 wheel disc, links, coilovers, stretched wheelbase….

It never ends. I’m currently trying to make terrible decisions, but life keeps slowing me down.

Thankfully my wallet holds me back.

No budget involved I would just buy an 80 chassis and the aqualu tub to fit. Super low cog, 37s and 6.0 5 speed.

But then it’s not a 40.

@clrussell What part of the heater are you looking for?

So many little details that fit so well.

I like the supports to put a roof rack on with the cage. I was wondering about that to myself a while back.
I agree. Also don't see as many early 40s restored like that. Seems like it's always the later models.

Now, how can a person do that with a fiberglass roof and be weatherproof?
I wonder if there’s a plate on top of that to sandwich his soft top down and seal things up?

That was my thoughts as well.

I love the idea and execution
Thinking about it further, I’m wondering if the fiberglass roof needs to move a bit.
In other words, how can you absolutely insure that your frame to top of rollbar is going to flex identical to your body mounts, through all the body panels, and up to the roof.

I’m not going first on this one.

Maybe that’s why they did soft top
