Found my problem with the front ADD actuator

Ouch....I think the seal is gone in dat one right der,

Wow, makes me want to go out and check my breather tubes after swimming last week!

On a side note, from the factory the motor contacts are not soldered to the posts that are fixed in the housing, they just rest against each other. My original ADD had reliability issues, so I had read somewhere about the posts not being soldered. This ADD had actually been opened up, soldered then put back together with additional RTV on the outer edges (it has an o-ring type seal already). But the open breather port just sucked in all kinds of crap.

Dear god, man! Stupid question I'm sure, but is there a risk of water ingress in to the differential?

I'm sure a little worked its way in, but the inside of the actuator does not get oiled by the gear oil - only the shift collar and post get oiled. And I had to drop most of the gear oil to remove the actuator off the axle housing anyway, so new fluid goes in when this gets replaced. This isn't much different than the e-locker motor on the rear axle.

That is some nast right there... Are those gears plastic? nust not be a lot of stress on the.

Changed the oil and checked the rig over for this weekend to OTMT. Well as you can see the box was pretty disorganized, well I had a ton of these square buckets that came from lowes old chain buckets. So I cut them down and used them to keep all the crap from rollin around in there. Worked out quite nicely. You can usually ask an associate if they've got any empty ones, best part it's free!

Turns out the 62 that is in the shop for a Vortec swap has been hit pretty hard in the front end and has serious frame damage. Whomever TRIED to pull the frame straight actually made it worse. The only real solution is a frame swap.

Then the dang thing peed on my shop floor, over a gallon. I'll be tracking down the leak once the body is back on the new frame

Went through the 40 a little more this weekend and decided that rather than just replacing brake pads, I needed to replace calipers and pads, both sides in the front. Man, that made a huge difference. It's amazing how much dirt, grime and gunk can accumulate in, on and around the brakes of an old vehicle. It is nice to not have to fight the wheel every time I brake now!

Finally got console installed and touched up sliders and bumper.

Replaced the rear hatch struts, if you remember I bought a set back in march from eBay, made in Turkey. They were around 50 for the set. One failed a few weeks ago, company shipped a new set for free, 2 day FedEx.
Good customer service.

So here's the skinny on my rig, it's desmogged with a Trollhole carb, it has 391,000 miles on it, current engine has about 130000 of those miles. It has a lil knock that kinda comes and goes. So last week I changed the oil and added 20% of MMO, drove it around a few times after work and didn't really notice any huge difference. Yeah it was quieter but I didn't drive it very much, so we come to this weekend and it was time it make a 300 mile trek to Sparta, TN to OTMT with upstate cruisers. So to get the most out of the rig I also ran it on mid grade gas (first time ever running it on mid grade) . It's a 5 hour trek and I made it on pretty much a tank of gas, I got 15 miles to the gallon this weekend, I am freakin stoked! I don't know if I'll run the mid grade around town just cause I don't think its worth it for around town use, but I will definitely run it on long hauls. Then engine ran nice and cool, actually saw the temp gauge drop when I got to the higher, cooler, elevations. Ran it between 65-70 mph and she never missed a beat, wheeled her all weekend and drove her home. I am going to put some in the tank and see what kinda results I get from it. All in all I'm sold on the stuff!

That is a beautiful place. I went through there going up to the Gauley a few years ago. I would love to go back and spend some more time up there.
