Builds What did you do to your Land Cruiser/Toyota/Lexus 4X4 this week?

My rear diff was making a horrible whine. Took to CBT originally for the diagnosis. Long story short, I challenged myself to pull the carrier and send it to @gearinstalls.com for some proper love and to save some coin. Pinion bearing was shot, wrong size bearing was used in the initial setup of the regear and air locker, etc.. Got it rebuilt to perfection and put it back in. No leaks. No RTV. Pretty pumped. Silent and feels like new. Air locker still works too. 81lbs, in case you were curious.

I did some routine checks and maintenance on the 80 today. Drained and refilled front diff fluid and checked torque specs on lower knuckle studs. A couple things I always keep an eye on.
Installed Delta panhard relocation bracket as well.
Before and after pictures. Test drive next.

while they're in there you should have them 1. replace the PHH 2. replace all hoses 3. clean the plenum thoroughly 4. flush the radiator. 5. replace thermostat 6. I don't know if they're going to do a valve job or not but I would recommend it 7. check on the belts to replace

As a precaution when they're putting fluid back in, have them put low end oil in the rig, don't change the oil filter, When they're finished drive it 500 miles, change the oil with your preferred oil and replace the old oil filter. Why? It's very possible to get radiator fluid in the head and this is a good precaution, it might be a fact that you cannot not get radiator fluid in the engine, IMHO. This advice comes from wiser men than me.

Thanks for the tips. The PHH has been swapped out already. Hopefully, they are replacing the hoses, and flushing the radiator, replacing the thermostat are all on the list of parts to be replaced. The head went out to a machine shop to be checked for cracks and the mating surfaces are flat.

I pulled the trigger on the LevelMatePro and Amazon was here the next day. This hardware and software set up is made to make your leveling of your vehicle easy and fast. This is something I find myself doing 50-75 times a year so Im excited.

Set up was fast and straight forward. I set my static level with the rear up ~1.5" because I prefer to have my head slightly elevated when sleeping.

Testing- Found an uneven spot much more than I would normally be off.

Blocks are rough 1.5" tall but one needs to take in account air pressure and ground condition.

Pulled up on the blocks

1898209

The results were great
With the static at 1.5" up in the rear I would still be happy only a .25" lower

Did a couple more test and the results were consistent and verified my reading with the level.

I first took to a daddy daughter dance with my oldest, then Uma (my fj40) got a nice respiratory treatment with new manifold gasket, and a facial getting the push rod cover painted with a new gasket there and the front bezel got a coat of white paint. She sounds better runs better starts better and doesn't smell like raw fuel.

I have found having the spouse (or dog) parked slightly uphill also provides extra warmth.:hmm:

I bought the truck last Tuesday (2/5) and last Saturday (2/9) I took off the running boards. First step in making the rig look less “AARP”. Next will be tires and probably 18’’ rims. After extensive use of the search function, I believe a nice set of Tundra 18’’ wheels would be the easiest way to convert to 18’’ rims that look OEM. My question is, will the hub caps I have now, work with clearing the hubs for the Tundra wheels? I know the Tundra hubs wont work on the front wheels, however I’m hoping I can use what I have now as the hubs on the new rims. Please let me know if any of you have experience with this.

Thanks!
