Yeah, there's always that. I usually get my SBC stuff at Albertson's. :)

I've heard whole foods is where it's at, but i've never been there...

Update

I changed the oil today and didn't find anything scary or unexpected on the magnetic sump plug so I don't think anything's broken inside. In fact, the truck is running really well (at least for now, fingers crossed).

Now just need to replace the AC clutch bearing which is howling... And the rear U-jonts. Gotta love delayed maintenance.

I gey my chebby stuff at Walmart at 3 in the morning on Sundays. It's right next to the AR15 parts bin and the Zerex.

3 a.m. at Walmart? You're a tweaker?

The only way I would go to a Walmart at 3am is with an AR. That place is scary in daylight.

This thread has been totally highjacked

Yep, it sure has.

Greg is right, lets get this back on track.

My recommendation is to sell that ridiculous mid-life crisis black toy car and part out the butt ugly FrankenCruiser and get yourself a nice mall cruiser, preferably a white hundy with a Toyota V8. You don't wheel anymore anyway.

:flipoff2:

Yeah, white Hundy's are great for not wheeling and just sitting in the garage and hauling loads of kids and moms around town a couple times a month, not that I'd have any first-hand knowledge of this.

so is THIS back on track?

So, after the hijack, how's your truck running? Just to clarify, your idle problem was no idle at all or an idle that stumbled- idled OK for a bit, then fell off, almost died, then picked up again?

Also, what were the "normal TBI problem causers" you addressed?

Did you check the IAC and it's little gasket? The IAC's contact points can wear and throw funny spikes in resistance. IRC, they're around 20 bucks. They can be checked with a DVM, but it's kind of a hassle; little tiny pins and big probes.

Another thought, just low idle speed can be a fuel pressure issue.

Or did it all go away (hopefully)?

Truck runs OK at driving RPMs. Idles is still incorrect - idles too high and is sometimes erratic once warm.

For the record, swapped out the following

IAC valve
TPS
Coolant temp sensor
EGR valve
Fuel injectors
Fuel pump
Fuel pump relay

Also tried a different computer and tried to adjust idle manually. Obviously I'm at a loss.

Man, that's a pretty complete list. Only other thing I can think of off hand is vacuum leak(s). You have replaced the old factory plastic stuff with new hose? I had a TBI issue and finally found the intake manifold with a tiny leak back at the firewall end, where you couldn't really see it. Finally saw a little wet spot of oil and knew that it leaked. This must be driving you crazy.

Yeah, checked for vacuum leaks using the "starting fluid spraying around the intake" tecnique. Nothing. It could probably use a new valley gasket either way. I have so much other delayed maintenance on that truck that needs to happen first (new rear U-joints and an AC clutch idler bearing that's howling). I'm only using the truck really every other weekend when I have to haul my kids around (they both won't fit in the Lotus) so I've only been tinkering with it sporadically. As long as it doesn't quit on me totally like it was I'll live with the flaky idle until I can really get into it. I don't really have any place to work on it where I live and only have access to about 5% of my tools right now so no major work is planned.

But I think you're right, there is a vacuum leak somewhere that I haven't found yet.
