i have been doing a complete restore of my bj40, going to do a color change on it. It was a real dark kinda forest green color. Been on Pinterest looking at all of the nice ones out there. Just can’t decide on a color, it will be a daily driver. Throw me some of your thoughts

Opinion Alert!

I would pick a color ('colour' if you're in Canada or Great Britain) from the original color palette for the year of the vehicle.

You can't go wrong with any stock color. It's amazing how nice all of them are.

I can't think of another vehicle that has as many great stock colors top to bottom.

This is the color I’m painting mine.

Rustic Green 621 is my favourite color:

How about one of these 4 colors. At least three of them are OEM colors. :hmm:

I'm most fond of the Dune Beige. I have a passion for the mustard just because no other vehicle is brave enough to wear it, therefore it's cool. I will also say though that the new Toyota colors that are without metal flake are very nice. New tones for a classic Cruiser look. (Like Jetlander's grey in the previous post.)

Wow! I have two of those colors (on one rig;)).

FWIW, we have been debating the color of our trail rig for years. My wife thinks it looks 'mean' with all the different colors, but I think we're going with the mustard with the retro dealer-applied stripes. I agree that the mustard is a color that only an FJ40 can wear well.

I would recommend this opinion. If you are striving for original equipment and resale value, stay with the limited factory OEM colors. If you are going to modernize it, modify it other than factory, etc, it doesn't really matter as it is not going to be original anyway.

Our 40s come from an era when people weren’t afraid of colors. The Audi we bought last year was offered in 11 “colors” - 2 whites, 2 silvers, 2 blacks, 3 grays and 1 each blue and red. I’m tired of vehicles that look like they are on an old grayscale monitor or B&W TV.

But there are many great colors that are “correct” for a Land Cruiser, especially if you aren’t too fussy about only considering the colors for your year.

While it’s not correct for my ‘64, I really like Cadet Blue from 1970 on a 40.

You see a freeborn cruiser, you want it painted black.
No colors on them any more, all 40's want to turn to black.
We see the girls driving by, dressed in their mudding clothes.
I have to turn my head, until her mustard FJ40 goes.
You see the line of Moab 40 rigs, and they're now all painted black.
Within jungles and just like my love, only Land Rovers never make it back.
We see people turn their heads, and slowly shift away.
Like a newly restored baby, blue just happens too much everyday.
I look inside my hood, and see her heart is black.
I see your rustic green door, and know you must have it painted black.
Maybe then we'll climb away, and not have to face the stone-hard facts.
It's not easy mudding-up, when your whole cruiser is less than black.
No more will our spring green go turn into some damn nordic blue.
We could not foresee this evil dune beige color happening to you.
If we look hard enough into the olive green fun,
Our love for 40's will laugh with you before the all white one comes.
(I want to see your bezel, bezel painted black - Black as night, black as oil -
I want to see the sun blotted out from all the sky blue ones)
We've not seen your dark green cruiser, but we want you to paint it black.
No color for your cruiser any more, we want your tub to turn into black.
You see the girl walk by, dressed in her rocking clothes.
You see us turn our head toward your 40 to see how dark yours can go.
Uahhh-haaaa-uuuuhhh-maaaaahaaahah-uh-mmmmmmuhahhammmmmm...

Not to change the subject, but what fender flares are the ones on the multi colored cruiser? Mice looking '40.

Thanks.
They are Bushwacker flares.

What Warloc said. Why change at all?
