Took a couple of air-cooled VW cylinder jugs, some lamp parts, and some welding to put things together...

My oldest is 16 and got his license last month.

We bought him this TJ for $2500 from a guy I work with and we have been working on it since March. There was a LOT more wrong with it than I had anticipated, but we are still in it for right around $5k. It is a real solid Jeep, and I am proud of him for digging in with me and getting it done! He also paid for half of everything with his own money from working as a lifeguard the past two summers.

We painted a set of new front fenders, replaced the front floor pans, fixed about a million oil leaks, replaced the ball joints on the front axle, did the brakes all around, spent hours and hours pressure washing and "de-turding" everything, new carpet, flares, light lenses, some Marketplace 31" tires, new soft top (sold the original hard top for $500), etc.

It is a sweet little ride for a 16 year old!

We still have some sliders sitting in the garage to put on it, then we are ready to head to AOAA and get it dirty!

original windshield hinges had broken pins, a replacement set was no better.
getting the remnants of the pins out proven quite difficult...so on to plan B.

Fall crawl prep. Step 2 - skidplate mod

At AOAA this summer, I got hung up on the last day on a rock pile and the back lip of the skid plate trapped me. Rock was behind the plate and at the same time another was hanging up the diff. I couldn’t go backwards as the flat skid was against the rock. Couldn’t go forwards, due to the diff. So I added a 45 degree lip to the back of the skid to help ramp up if I need to back out of something.

It's been awhile since I've had some spare time to work on personal projects, but I'm still trying to move the English Wheel project along.
The next step has been setting up the upper wheel and lower anvil and their adjusters. I'm using Hoosier Profiles' Complete English Wheel Kit for those components and Wray Schelin's English Wheel Frame Plans, so there is some work to fit the two together.
I mocked up a lower anvil adjuster so that I can take measurements for the lower adjuster. The next/parallel step will be setting a working height based on all of this to build the legs for the frame.

And then spent the rest of the afternoon shoehorning about a ton of cast iron into position in the workshop...

The Bridgeport is in place and I'm working on sorting through tooling and cleaning things up.

Went to the scales today with Dad’s new to him truck and the 40. Who wants to guess the weight of the combo and the individual tow rig, trailer and cruiser? F250 is a 2000 7.3 PSD 2WD 6 spd
