Sad thing is the whole housing has an O-ring seal on it and the hub flange has a seal on it. Now sure how all that mud got in there @FamilyCamper ???

Let say I had to get out the torch to get things apart. The mud is baked onto the drum. I am going to let it soak in Kerosene for a day an see if it will come off. Wire brush, wire wheel, sand paper, metal scraper and razor blade could not get it. Drum is $300, so I will find a way to clean it.

new shoes, seals, hub are on the way!
yummmm. That thing has definitely seen some mud action wowzerr

So @captainva is the AC guy. Sweet, I may need a top off...

I think Rob is the real AC guy. I just topped up the system but it worked. GX went from ~65° out of the vents to ~40° sitting at idle. Vast improvement

Definitely something I need to do

A quick trip on the brake lathe saved me over $300!!

All the parts finally came in this week for a little suspension work on the 60 series.

Tires had been rubbing in the front on tight turns -- got caster shims -- and figured if I was going to take it all apart, I might see if I could fix the 60 series lean to the driver's side with an extra leaf.... and then in preparation of taking it on a trip with you all, I found some u-bolt skids. Installed all the front stuff over the past few days and took it for a spin this morning. No rubbing and riding a little higher from the driver's seat!

Before any of that started though, I went down there and found a nice power steering fluid leak. The pump had been relocated down to the lower passenger corner of the engine to put a new AC compressor up top, so it was a bitch to take off. Thinking I'd do one of the FJ62 / HJ rebuild seal kits, I snagged one of those. Whatever this pump is, I don't believe it came from a 60 series land cruiser and was impossible to even take off its bracket. There was one spotty looking permatex'ed gasket to the inlet port in the back that I re-did and it looked like the source of my leak was cracking in the inlet hose. Easy enough to replace, and will return that rebuild kit to CruiserCorps. Steering is like 5X smoother now that there is sufficient fluid in the system.

Also discovered there are no bolts in the front two body mounts of the truck. I don't think it's going anywhere, but another project for another day.

↓ The concrete pad is working out pretty splendidly! ↓

Good stuff man. Cant wait to see it on the trails…

The 60 should be the nice one...the 80 should become the trail hero given the V8

... the 60 has the tires, the bumpers, the suspension, the manual transmission, and now 2 / 4 ubolt skit plates!

I make and have u-bolt skid plates. Mike just bought a set recently. They are un-welded but I can weld them up for you.

Ah damn should have got them from you. I have a back set already, i just got tired and decided to do them another day.

I finished up my storage system. Simple and somewhat light. The box is bolted to the wheel wells so it can not move and will hold stuff inside with the tailgate closed. Also makes it easier to get to my cooler.

I also wrapped up my 4 wheeler transformation. From blacked out to the factory red plastics. Lift kit and oversized tires off and stockers back on . It should be ready for miles of service. A scary thing is it will pop a wheely with me on it from a stop!

Looking for the slop in my steering box, I found the input collar had backed off. I also decided to add a remote resevoir to the system. I still had the stock gm stuff off the 95 G2500 I pulled the engine from. I weled up the 2 nd return on the can and made a braket for the engine. Now the resevoir will be the highest point in the system and keep the pump from cavitating with air.
