I can edit this if it makes more sense to list certain criteria to help others but wanted to see what everyone uses. Any reason you use it or find its best?
- Strava: I used to use this until they started charging. I paid for a while but started to find I was so caught up in times I would occasionally maybe be a bit pushy on the trail and fail to yield to others lol...
- All trails: Currently using this app as a subscription and sharing with the wife when she hikes but found she stopped using it and not sure it is the best for MTB riding. Thinking of dropping and looking elsewhere.

So that brings me here. What app you use and why you think it is best for riding? Free is always best but I wouldn't mind paying a subscription. I'm looking for one that would work in all states preferably but not necessary.
I may currently look into:
COTREX- Looks to be good for Colorado and also single tack moto but obviously not other states.
Trailforks- I was told this is great when in ID but didn't get to use it much and not sure it works elsewhere.

Ride with GPS. I paid for the upgraded version that includes a lot good stuff especially if you are creating routes, sharing them, doing offline downloads, etc.

Considering how much I ride now, it’s basically an essential tool.

I still use strava for recording. I use the free version, as the paid one doesn't offer me anything I need. For looking at trails in a new area-I use a mix of komoot and ridewith gps. Usually, if I'm traveling to ride it's a bikepacking trip. So, I'm doing a lot more planning then just looking at trails.

I know some people use strava as a excuse for poor trail etiquette. But, I don't care about my time or yours. But, I do like seeing friends post up rides or runs. When I'm feeling a bit lazy, it encourages me to get going and stop looking at old land cruisers for sale.

I record with a Wahoo Element, upload to Strava and Training Peaks, and do ride planning with Ride with GPS. So that’s my “tech stack” so to speak.

Wahoo uploads seamlessly to any service I want (I’m sure the others do too, I’ve just never used them) so I keep the services up to date with no additional effort.

I’m casually shopping for a new head unit, as I’m using a first gen Element, and I just have itchy fingers for something with a newer, color screen. I almost bought a Karoo, but I ride Campy on my gravel and road bikes, and since they (Karoo) are deeply integrated with SRAM now (Which is really cool, but I’m not a SRAM guy), I’ll probably just go with a newer Wahoo. My son rides with an old simple computer so I’ll give him the Element, he isn’t anywhere near the data geek I am.

Strava IMO has jumped the shark esp as they nickel and dime you to death.

I'll have to check out ride with gps

I like RwGPS because it’s a one and done payment scheme. You get everything for one payment and I amortize that across all of my riding that I do— so far this year, almost 1500 miles…. (More if I wasn’t so damn injured)…

Planning a pretty long ride overseas for 2025 and I can construct routes, overlay WiFi/Cell coverage, weather, hotels/motels/AirBnBs, bike shops, what routes are road and what routes are “off-road”, etc.

But there is a learning curve like every information system.

Strava (free)
RWGPS (bike club membership)
Garmin Connect

Mostly a roadie...

For my recreational rides, Garmin Connect (have a Garmin watch and small Edge head unit) to track. I don't plan recreational rides, just go exploring.

RwGPS (free version) to download some routes in other areas.

I do use OpenStreetMaps with the bicycle overlay to check out places to ride, I've found numerous dirt trails in my corner of suburbia that I otherwise would never have known about.

I saw this today and thought of this thread. It is so true and why I moved on from the app…
I was becoming that guy shooting for the fastest ride of the day more than I realized. Some may have sacrificed for my goals lol.

I’ve been considering letting my sub lapse next year and just rolling with the free version. When I was first getting started I enjoyed chasing those segment times and in general seeing how I stacked up against others but nowadays I don’t care anymore and just want to enjoy my rides and rack up the miles. However fast or slow they may be.
