I would love to have some tie down points in the cargo area and I'm wondering if Toyota ever offered anything. If nothing from the factory, what are others using?

62s have them. 4 on the floor

Not the 60. Some guys put d-rings or loops in the corners, or right behind the rear seat (to avoid the fuel tank right underneath). I made a plywood dummy floor and wrapped it in tan carpet. D-rings bolt to it, and then it bolts to the floor in 4 spots that miss the tank. So in the end, only 4 holes through the sheetmetal. And it doesn't flop around on bumpy trails.

The four through-bolts are the ones with the big fender washers:

At the back corners near the tail gate, I just drilled two small holes about 1 inch apart at each corner and fed line down the holes and knotted them from underneath. That way when they weren't needed, they were out of the way and soft and could just mash down to the floor

Oooh, thanks for sharing your very clean solution. Did you put nuts under the floor for the through bolts?

Yes. i put big wingnuts and lock washers on the underside so that I could reach up and tighten them up every now and then without tools. In the end I spent about $30 on plywood and carpet (home depot) and just as much again on hardware.

Yes, they were an option, just not here in NA. Check out the drawings on ToyoDIY.com.

is used on the 62’s over here, but is also listed on the 60’s. I installed them in my BJ60 decades ago.
Pictures show the hooks in an upright position, they stow laying flat. The matting and sound deadening was already cut out for them from the factory.

My Canadian HJ60 came with them. I use them every day and never knew they were a rare item.

same, I have four of them. Looks they have been there from new. Added two more from a wrecked vehicle.

First I ever saw of this OEM 60s option. I have some removable quick connect Orings awaiting install.

My '86 FJ60's body shell has the holes, taped over with foil tape at the factory. I added the tie-downs from my '89 FJ62 donor vehicle.

This.^^

my hj61 rhd has tghese as well, and there is one anchor and strap on the rear of the rear seats

Pretty much. Very similar to this setup
That's pretty sweet. Leaves a flush surface when removed but a very nice anchor point when installed. I'd be tempted to anchor these through the carpet. Thanks for a great suggestion.
