Thanks for the LOL chuckle. That was great. Sort of proves my point about AWD AND Subaru drivers...who are cocky SOBs and think their AWD is "just as good" as 4wd.
Although, in the mid '80's one of our first 4x4's (yes it had a low range) was a Subaru and it was quite capable, even if the wheels and tires were on the small side.
100% correct. Forced induction decreases reliability for sure. Plus if you ever have an unexpected moderate oil leak have fun with replacing those turbos if not more.
I wouldn’t buy the GX if it wasn’t for the V8, I’d stick to a 4Runner with a factory locker and a littler better aftermarket support.
Toyota makes great V8s and I can live with the MPGs. Plus, for how I drive, I get the same average gas mileage in my GX as I got in my 4.0 V6 Tacoma, same as any 6 cylinder Jeep I’ve owned, etc so who’s complaining.

Agreed, we moved on after three 5th Gen 4Runners and two FJC's to the GX mainly for the V8 and 6-speed transmission. I much prefer the looks of the 4Runner and the aftermarket is extensive in comparison. I think it's kinda crappy that the GX doesn't get the rear locker as well, if they had them from the factory I wouldn't even bother with a regear and adding the ARB's. I'd like to say that I plan to keep the GX for the long run but I know myself and my track record and I can't commit to anything so I just keep building and see where things take me from here.

This would be my largest concern if the Land Cruiser or Prado went to a V6 turbo: reliability. I've always had the impression that turbos increased the stress on an engine because of the increased pressure and temperatures.
Regarding MPG, has Toyota introduced engine stop/start into the GX yet? That should improve real-world city MPG.

There's 3 different levels of Subaru AWD:
-non-turbo auto is a haldex setup, like any other econobox AWD
-turbo auto has a proper center diff, and an LSD rear diff, not bad
-manual trans is 50/50 power split for all engines and trim levels, with rear LSD's on turbo engines, and an adjustable center diff in STi's
I owned a non-turbo automatic Legacy and was disappointed to learn the intricacies after purchasing the car, lol.
