I'm hoping you guys can help me locate a photo. I stumbled across an FJ40 build where a guy had welded his receiver hitch straight into the rear bumper, and reinforced it with wings welded to the frame. I can't seem to locate it again.

Similar to this 80 setup: Receiver Hitch Mod

Anybody done this before or know what I'm talking about? Thanks!

That’s a really clean setup, but that’s not who I’m thinking of.

The photo I saw had the tub off the frame and had welded diagonal tube supports directly between the frame and the hitch.

Depends upon how heavy/size trailer you plan to tow. I had a fully self contained travel trailer I pulled out to the wheeling runs, and I used an equalizer hitch set-up, soooo my receiver tube actually had additional bracing tubes up to the tubular shock absorber crossmember- - -angulated to grab a larger bite of the rear frame area when equalizing the load between FJ40 frame and trailer frame.

Do you have any photos of the setup?

I've done this on a couple of my 40's. This example was done 25 or 30 yrs ago.
