Hey guys… 98 Land Cruiser 267,000 miles… Starting to stumble a little bit at idle and upon acceleration. I had first thought ignition coil, but no codes have been thrown at all…fuel filter about 10,000 miles ago. Did a video, but couldn’t get the stupid thing to attach. Thanks!

Did you check "pending" codes?

Perhaps fuel pump is getting an attitude.

I had issues with a slight stumble and never threw any codes. Turned out 2 generic coil packs were cracked and causing issues. Went ahead and replaced all 8 with Denso coils. Issue resolved.

I'd say it would be worth pulling your coils and inspecting them.

So I went by an awesome place here in the Austin area called Land Cruiser Specialist and talked to Shawn… he was awesome and full of good suggestions! He recommended cleaning the mass airflow sensor, cleaning the throttle body, and then pulling the engine cover and making sure there were no cracks in any of the vacuum hoses. Very nice of him to come out and listen to the truck run and give those suggestions all out of the goodness of their hearts! I have a couple of spare ignition coils, and I may try to swap them out one by one to see if it eliminates the problem as well! The guys were very helpful and very knowledgeable and probably had 30 land cruisers sitting in the parking lot and in their garages… attached is their business card, if anyone ever needs them! Any updates to your situation? Mine developed the same issue recently. Not at idle but for sure during acceleration.

I had this prior to installing new coils (all 8) mine were cracked but seemed fine. 1k miles later felt a stumble, only had pending codes for random misfires on 2 cyls, it was most likely 1 and it threw both sensors under load. Idled fine, cruised fine, stumbled under higher loads/uphill.

I had an aftermarket coil that was the bad one, even though it was newer.

Replaced with Toyota OE from PartSouq.

Yep. I've already had to replace 2 of the Amazon cheapos. OEM next time, but man they are expensive!

Yeah the $$$ for replacement was rough, figure at least another 10 years on new ones though.

Your aftermarket only lasted 2 months!?

Yep they were total crap. I have the 98 LC, and 2 LX470's and I go through ignition coils like they are going out of style for some reason....may be because they all have over 200K on them...
