So my 2000 Lexus LX470 does a crank no start. It was running fine yesterday but we parked it and turned it off with the AC on and then immediately tried to turn it back on again. I cranked it until the battery lost charge. I replaced the 20A EFI fuse with a 25A but still no glory. Car had been running and starting fine before this except the starter may be beginning to show signs of failing. Any suggestions would be welcome.

So do you have an immobilizer light when you initially stick the key in the ignition? I had a similar issue with mine about a year ago. Turned out the fuel pump was dead. I checked all the common failure points (relays, fuses, etc) and that all checked out. Finally came down to the fuel pump.

I had wondered about that when the starter began being a little shifty. Is there a simple test for it or did you just have to buy the part and cross your fingers?

Well, I finally convinced myself it was the fuel pump when I saw now fuel at the filter when trying to start it. I did access the pump wiring (just below the driver seat/rear door underneath the floor...runs right along the frame) and check voltage while trying to start it.

I’ll bite. I seriously can’t think of what else it could be. I ordered the Denso pump off Amazon and if it works I’ll follow up on here. If anybody has any other suggestions I’d be happy to hear them.

I think before you pull the pump, confirm if you have fuel at the filter while trying to start. Should have lots of fuel while starting.

No tool checks:

If immobilizer light off while cranking. I'd next shift hard into P or slide into N, try to start. Sometimes we don't shift hard enough into P. Old transmission lock off switch can get temperamental. If still cranks and will not start. I'd then pull fuel line off of fuel filter (Downstream fuel filter line, pinch green retainer lock and pull off the line from fuel filter). Attach a clear hose to fuel filter, other end to a catch can. Crank engine and look for a good solid follow of fuel. Be supper carefully. The vapor of gasoline is highly flammable. Just a spark and boom!!!

Tips:
When replacing fuel pump, replace fuel tanks top seal. Also, the fuel filter if old.

Thanks! Just tried the hard shift thing and no joy. When I get a second set of hands to help this evening I plan to try the fuel filter thing. Also thank you very much for the tip about the tank seal. I’m going to order that from rock auto now

Having a similar problem with my 2002, what ended up being the problem?

Meh still waiting for the denso fuel pump to ship from Amazon. Latest delivery date is between 20th and 24th of July. Will update if this fixes the problem. Let me know if you beat me to it.

So I just replaced the fuel pump and still no start. No gas coming out of the front of the fuel filter into the motor. I had to use an aftermarket pump to replace mine and had to cut the factory harness. I linked blue to yellow and black to black, does anyone know if I wired it backwards

I’ve got a meter. I checked for continuity already on the crimped connections I made. Which wires should I check for voltage and what should I read?

The only thing I can think of is that I either have a clogged fuel filter which is doubtful as I just replaced it maybe 20k miles ago or I wired it backwards but that shouldn’t make a difference.

I'm not at home at the moment to check my manual, but here are a few thoughts. Did you check fuel flow on the inlet to the filter? As far as voltage, it you should have ~12v while trying to start. Mine was lower than that for some reason, but should be close to 12.
