Here's my LandcruiserPhil Puma mount modified to hold two 3.5gal Waterbrick containers. This mount, on the passenger side, works perfectly for this given how the mounts are nearly centered underneath the platform. Each fill Waterbrick weighs 28lbs according to their web site. That's the same as a Puma compressor. Two are right at 56lbs. included hardware brings it to 60lbs.

I've devised a stud and retainer system to keep it from moving laterally or vertically without placing any stress or abrasion on the containers. I can also access my storage area to get to my wiring distribution point unobstructed.

The studs are 1/2" bolts, misc. nuts, connectors and 50mm urethane skateboard wheels. These easily hold a single Waterbrick without vertical hold downs if need be. The skateboard wheels are placed vertically to center inside the tapered cone shaped holes in the Waterbricks.

The hold downs are 12" 1/2" eye bolts inside 3/4" PVC and a series of washers to form a 3" hold down on top. These hold downs are configured to tighten to the studs and stop without crushing the Waterbricks.

I still need to put my 1/4" barbed fittings and Camelbak Quick Link connectors to finish it off.

My original vision was simply a 1/2" nut welded under the platform with 14" 1/2" all thread with a 4" washer and giant wing nut. I didn't like that solution for two reasons 1) I couldn't keep the containers from sliding around and 2) I didn't like the crushing force needed to hold them down and keep them put.

I decided to just leave these in the truck all the time with the caps loose and then I can just visit any public reverse osmosis water fill station before I go out on the trail.

I may choose to carry a 3rd loose Waterbrick tied up between the tire and the drivers side for a total of 10.5gal!

I'll post up a list of what's under the Skateboard wheel.

Nice job on that! Clever use of the skateboard wheel.

Excellent idea and execution. Thanks so much for writing this up and including such details and great pics. It's stuff like this that makes Mud awesome.

The studs start with a 2 1-2" x 1/2"-13 bolt with a lock washer and washer coming up from underneath. On top of the platform is a washer and flared lock 1/2"-13 nut followed by a standard 1/2"-13 nut which locks everything together.

Next the 50mm skateboard wheel goes on and pushes down over the nut. The urethane is soft enough that the nut will form into the wheel. Next a second standard 1/2"-13 nut goes on top of the wheel and will squish down far enough that you can't gets wrench on it. Just turn the wheel by hand and everything will tighten up. Finally, put the 1/2"-13 extended coupler (long nut) on with red Lock-Tite and tighten securely. The coupler will tighten the nut in the wheel. Repeat for the other stud.

I masked the wheels, sanded the new hardware with 80 grit and painted everything with 2 coats of primer and a few coats of Rustoleum Textured Bronze (7226) for a perfect Oak color match.

The hold downs are 12" X 1/2"-13 eye bolts that begin with a 1/2" fender washer followed by a standard washer that fits inside of a 4" x 3/4"? washer to center it. Next is a 1/2" rubber fender washer sized washer as finally another 1/2" fender washer. It would have been easier to find a 3" or 4" washer but I couldn't locate one at Ace Hardware.

I then cut a piece of 3/4" PVC at 9 1/8"" long and used a rounded wood rasp to enlarge one end slightly. Within this end I inserted a flared 1/2"-13 nut backwards and tapped it in until it was flush. I determined the length by placing the Waterbricks on the studs and dropping the PVC with the pressed nut through the holes until it touched the extended coupler (long nut) then marked the PVC where it was flush with the top of the Waterbrick.

I slid a piece of 1/2" hose over the length of the eye bolt to keep everything centered and to retain my stack of washers. Next I screwed it together snugly and marked the first thread protruding from the nut with a sharpie.

I removed the PVC placed Red Lock-Tite below the sharpie mark towards the eye of the bolt and then slid the 3/4" PVC over it and screwed it snug. This secures everything and leaves clean threads with no Lock-Tite exposed.

The hold downs now screw into the studs until they stop, no need to be over tightened from what I can tell.

Thanks! I've taken so much from this forum, happy to give something unique back.

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you how I figured out where to drill the hold down holes. Doh!

I stacked 2 Waterbricks on the Puma mount with it bolted onto the fender and took a piece of 3/4" PVC and inserted it though each hole in the bricks. Once I was happy with their placement, I just twisted the pipes and they made a perfect circle marking to drill into the center of.

The bricks are exactly 18" long as the shelf and only slightly wider.

One more thing on that USB power supply. I found both a 6" and 12" 1/8" twist drill bit at Ace Hardware to get the power device mounted right up against the weld. I went with the 6". Pretty handy.

Nice job on that! Clever use of the skateboard wheel.

Thanks, seemed like a natural fit given the beveled edges and all. If anyone needs a pair, I have a set I'll sell for $15. The shop only sold them in sets of 4 for $38

Hmmmmm.....

Great use of the Puma mount and excellent execution of your mounting system for the Waterbrick.

Waterbricks are great I carry three just not as creatively.

Thanks Phil, I managed to rig up a decent hose setup too, I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Rigged up a couple of barbed fittings capped with Camelbak Hydrolink fittings and storage caps. The one on top is a vent and the bottom connects to my hose which will dangle from the tailgate (it's not connected in the picture, just dangling in the orange cord). The caps are great and prevent the hassle of dealing with a hose during filling. The orange cords allow me to store them on the vent so I don't lose them.
