I was only there once but if I remember there was some soul food place right outside the Mall area that was good and famous, I know not remembering the name is useless to you though and it was 30 years ago.

or Archibald on k street, they closed the 1720 club.
Thanks, dude. That is super helpful. I will just go to the Mall and follow black people who are older than 30 around until I find it.

If you are interested in a particular type of ethnic food or something in a particular area let me know.
Edit, I just noticed the "lunchtime" in the title. Many of those probably don't do lunch but check the Web site as they may. Ray's is definitely open for lunch.
I'd heard of Ray's. I appreciate the suggestions. I'm definitely looking for lunch time stuff: sandwiches, burgers, ethnic foods. Anything I shouldn't be missing. Preferably accessible by Metro.
Atticus if you are in the mood for a burger try five guys, they are all over the place in DC
Since we're on this, I've just arrived at my Holiday Inn in the historic district south of Reagan airport (Old Town North?). 20-some hours to kill, what to do that doesn't cost much $? I might be able to score a ride on the hotel shuttle van, otherwise I'm on foot.
