I promised my wife a new washer and dryer when I finished her laundry room and I will have it sheet rocked tomorrow. With presidents day sales going on we have been looking but are undecided. We want a top loader it seems the new machies with no agitater dont get good reviews or is a mix of good and bad.

I wanted to see what every one suggests.

We'll be looking at new units soon.

Why are you set on top loaders? Just curious. I was under the assumption that front loaders are more energy and water efficient.

Samsung consistently sweeps at JD Power ratings, I'll probably looking at those first.

Just went thru this. In 93 when we bought our house we bought maytag appliances to go in it. We replaced our w&d earlier this year and since we have had such good luck with maytag we went that route again. We settled on the Bravos line of Maytag W&D. The washer is a non agitating type and appears to work fine however, it is noiser than hell and sounds like it is broken. The lonely maytag repairman assures me this is the way this thing should operate.Well, if you like it quiet then don't buy this setup. The only other drawback to noise is if you do not set the clothes etc in it correctly then they will be ripped up by whatever agitating process it does.

Hmmm... OK good info.

Our current setup is in the basement, and my wife is starting to have troubles with her hip, doing lots of stairs. We have a big jet tub in our master bath that we never use, so the idea is to remove the tub and put the W&D in that spot. Plumbing shouldn't be too bad, since it's already mostly there, electric too (except for the dryer). So it does need to be quiet.

Since I refuse to do laundry, I was willing to buy whatever the wife wanted when we moved back to the US last summer. We had an almost brand new Maytag pair but after 7 years in storage they were starting to rust. IH8RUST!

We eventually went Samsung; high capacity, front load, steam injection, etc. Big sale at Lowes. She insisted on getting the bases. I thought they were a ripoff for the price but I have to admit that it's pretty nice to have the doors where you don't have to bend over. Again, I don't do the laundry so as long as she's happy, I'm happy. I will say that they are both very quiet.

My wife went and looked today and I think she found a kenmore washer and dryer. I was actually supprised she said it was the lower priced units. We want a top washer because we both are tall and we would have to bed over more to use a front washer. And I think its a rip off to buy the stands for $500. So I guess we are going to go tomorrow and buy some.

My story: We built a new house. And got new applicances over a year ago.

We actually went to a local applicance store. Got a GE. The store services what they sell. We have already brought other items from them and have had no issues w/ purchase or service. They said they had the least calls for this item.

Was about the same cost as big box brand. Now we help keep the locally owned places open.

We ended up going to HHGergg to get whirlpool cabrio top loader with steam dryer. They were cheaper on the washer and price matched the dryer plus 10% and the 5 year warranty was 150 cheaper than sears. They also offered a 150 rebate that only HHGregg offers so it works out by the time we get the rebates back we will have paid less than what the smaller kenmore was going to run. I will post up what models we got once I get back to a computer.
