I have a 88 - FJ62. The battery, brake and ATF warning lights all came on at once today. I was only driving for 10 minutes when it happened. My battery was dead yesterday since I left the headlights on all day. I jumped it and it ran fine and starts right up. I checked the alternator belt and it is tight. Battery may be older, since I bought the LC 1.5 years ago and I haven't replaced it.

I had the transmission just looked at b/c the light came on during a long trip. The mechanic said he found a faulty solenoid for front differencial engagement. He installed new solenoid and wiring. He test drove it for around 60 miles and kept checking the ATF temp with an infrared sensor and the temp was fine.

He also installed new front pads on the front brakes and cleaned back shoes. The parking brake is not engaged and the fluid is fine. Any suggestions are really appreciated.
 
i had the same thing happened to me. i put new battery+alternator, but warning lights are still on. the battery +alt were dead tho.
the transmision light; i fix that on by bringing it to local tranny shop and had the hydraulic [steel] lines swapped for rubber ones since there was a leak somewhere...the light hasnt come back on.
this happened about 6months ago.

if there is a leak, buy your own rubber hoses, might cost <20$, better then the tranny guy charging you 300+labor ;)
 
Have you checked you fuses? Any of the gauges acting up?
 
I had that problem once also. It was after I put a new alternator on. Come to find it was the new one that i just put on. Went and got another one put it on and it was fine.
 
Thanks everyone for the info. I will check the fuses, b/c occasionally my temp gauge will peg hot and then go down a minute later. I will also look at the hoses.
 
I had similar symptoms on my FJ62, turned out it was the alternator.
As I understand it, the reduced voltage output of the failing alternator
was misinterpreted by various sensors as trouble in specific areas.
For example, the auto trans. temp. sensor saw reduced system voltage
and interpreted that as high tranny temp.

Fix was straightforward: new alternator.

Phrog- Thanks, I think your probably spot on. I really do not think the tranny is running hot since I just had that issue addessed as well as the breaks. It stops fine. Maybe my jump screwed the alternator. New alternator should not be too expensive. Thanks for the good advice.:beer:
 
Easy alternator check: voltage at battery should be ~14V at
~2000 rpm. Similarlly, ammeter on dash should show system
charging when engine running ~2000+ rpm.
