I have been a long-time lurker on here. In my family we've had 3x FJ60s, 3x FJ80s, and a GX470 as daily drivers. I have been looking for a FJ40 for 22 years, but finally am in a position to buy one. 3 car garage, a boy to work on it with, some income, and most importantly an agreeable wife. I try to move on them, but due to my job I can't always jump when they pop up on CL or mud. I could easily find one for $20-30k, but I want to have a truck to restore with my boy: finding parts, rebuilding things, factory original restoration process, etc. A frame off candidate without much rust is appealing for those reasons. $8000 to $13000 is my range and appears to be in line with what I want to do with it. The truck will be moving to TX, will have a good life, and stay in the mud community.

Jimj's recent blue one on here would have been perfect, but no way I could get up there to Vancouver Island in time for sale.

Here is what I am looking for:
Clean
Original or mostly original
Minimal rust (the usual spots OK, but no penetration)
No major body mods (cut fenders are fine if lifted)
2F (no conversion)
Lift /wheels are fine
Lower miles preferred
Reasonable vinyl with original seats.
Good dash pad preferred
Top and doors
Power steering is optional
Located in US (or Canada)

Blue color is preferred.

Obviously not in a hurry considering I've waited 22 years, but the sooner the better!

Awesome! Will keep my eyes peeled for something that fits your bill. Good luck with the search!
Thanks. Again - if anyone on here knows who purchased JimJ's blue 40, let me know. I am willing to let them turn a quick profit if I can grab it form them! I was dumb for not jumping on it in retrospect!

A guy I know put me in touch with a guy about a 79 40 here in Iowa. It looks clean via photos. He's already started "restoring" it but he painted it bright white, non-OEM wheels, but everything appears to be there. He's asking $12,900 but I'm thinking that's on the high side. I'd price it around a $9k rig assuming it is as pictured. If you want me to look at it I could this weekend sometime and let you know.

Her is an all original 1979 for sale 1979 FJ40
This one is intriguing, but I think this is a little out of my rust-tolerance category. I am not a welder and that looks like most panels behind the front doors have some holes and would need replacing. Or just ignore them, enjoy its original body, and drive it....

Teleskier, pls let me know if this is not of interest to you. I'm interested in contacting LS1FJ40 to learn more but you have first dibs as you are original poster. Thx.

I have asked LS1FJ40 to take a look for us collectively and get some photos. I've got a few feelers lighting up out there.

I just texted the owner. Asked him if I could take a look at it this week sometime in the evening. I'll see what he says. And get a full list of what has been done to it.

Going tonight to check it out.

I could be talked out of this one for $11k 1977 no rust at all Idaho truck. It comes with DS door, roof side panels and headers, perfect fiberglass roof , rear heater. 91,000 miles showing runs and drives, Saginaw conversion (front plates on frame could be better but fixable) Steering column done right, shackle reversal and 4"lift. Also cleanest frame I have ever seen. I was selling the body off it to install my Aqualu body but I could buy an Aqualu frame since i have the running gear.

LS1FJ40 looked at it (THANKS!) and the verdict is that the motor is really nice, but all sorts of paint colors and some maybe even some filler here and there. Needs a fberglass top replacement. We should wait for the "official" report from LS1FJ40 though. I think I will hold out for a clean original.

I like this no-rust truck... But its starting to look a bit bare. Post some more pics if you can of the parts you have....
