MAF sensor (pre-SC) / Air Temp (post-IC)

150F / 120F
136F / 119F

On avg there is between 10-30F drop in MAF vs. AT
MAF is read thru Scangauge (IAT) and AirTemp thru my Glowshift gauge.

I'll update with more temp measurements as this initial run was in-town, freeway.

Issue with my boost gauge but maybe a bad sensor.

Intercooler pics

Here are some pic's from this weekend. To purge air from the system, I ran a circulation pump to introduce coolant into the radiator and exit at the top of the intercooler. At the same time I ran the intercooler pump. It took about ten minutes to bleed all of the air out of the system.
Last weekend, at the end of the long test drive to Miller Jeep Trail. Everything work well. But, at one point after stopping at the end of the trail, the intercooler pump began cavitating and stopped moving water. The IA temp post SC rose to 195F. I stop a few miles later and squished to intercooler hose a few times and cleared the air pocket. The temp went down to 115F. Over all the intercooler seems to be cooling the IA to about 10F above the MAF air temp.
We are taking a trip this weekend and will be pulling the trailer. This will be a good test for overheating. I'll keep you posted.

Just discovered this thread.

VERY nice work.

Have you folks put together a list of part numbers ?

frozenboost.com (fb) has good info and parts
-12x12.5x4.5 type3 Intercooler (modified)
(fb has similar ones- most seem to be the same. Size and orientation is up to the individual-we picked something that we thought would fit best)
-IC radiator: fb 12x12 heat exchanger (modified) & PWR IC heat exchanger
-fb remote fill cap
-Johnson CM30 12v pump (Bosch Ford Lightning/GT500 pump also popular) CM30 is a Bosch oem supplier, supossedly better than the Bosch unit.
-custom reservoir tank
-12v pusher fan: HD finger chopper & 80w low profile (thefanman.com)

monitoring:
-dashdaq
-glowshift 3in1

-aux on/off switch (spare switch I had)
-1 million other little things

Refer to the diagram on first post and also Inverness' photos.

I've found it to be the most complex thing I've done on the truck to date so I don't want anyone to think this is plug-n-play (I installed the SC and that was nothing compared to this).

However, if you are motivated it is a rewarding and educational process.

Will continue to update.

Thanks for the parts list. If you still have the PN's for the intercooler and the radiator, once I start hacking and sawing, it would give me some comfort to know at least that I started with the same parts the SOMEBODY made it work.

A couple more questions:
What kind of budget range should one assume before starting this project ?

I cannot get a good look at how you reattached the IC to the intake air box. Did you use the OEM part to preserve the bolt pattern, and remove the heat exchanger vanes? Our did you fab your own part from scratch?

Just curious as to your IA temps taken at the MAF. They seem a bit high compared to what I have been getting.

Mine are way cooler, in the 80's to 115 or 120F. Usually 15 to 40 degrees F hotter than outside air temp when measured by ScanGauge II when driving. When creeping on the trail with minimal airflow, I see temps similar to yours in the 130's to 150's.

Then again I have a snorkel and the airbox is aluminum ceramic coated as well as the exhaust manifolds. I also installed louvered hood vents in the low pressure areas on top of the hood to create a vacuum and pull the heat out with some airflow over them.

Are you running a stock air intake through the fender?

I have been wanting to do an intercooler to help things abit when in the desert and steep grades in the mountains. I am interested in how you have done things. If I could reduce temps at similar rates like in your 80 with the same set-up, I would be very happy & cool.

Where are you located in SoCal? I'd like to check out your set up.

That sounds similar to the IAT's that I get. I don't get 80F IAT's unless it's really cold out, of course. Even then, I don't think my IAT's stay that low- they could but I haven't paid attention to that.

Yes, stock air intake. I have heat wrap on the air cleaner. The hood vent is a good idea, I have thought of doing it.

This is the reason I did the IC. It has been helpful and I got a smaller pulley to bump the HP- didn't install yet but when I get the time...
I don't think a smaller pulley is ideal in summer desert weather. That added psi makes the air quite a bit hotter... but it will be an interesting experiement. Who knows right?

I'm up in the LA area. Maybe we will hit a group trip, it's always fun to check out rigs!

Just came across this thread while doing some back-researching all possible options/directions to get max efficiency out of a supercharger install - very impressive install !

-Was the intercooler a TRD piece you modified?

-Any hood clearance issues or hood bracing that needs to be reshaped or deleted?

NICE!!!

Hello my friend i`m from venezuela and i`m doing somthing like you did to your lc. I would like to know how was your presure before and after and what was the final result!!! Hp gain? I`m working on a chiller sistem when i get it don a will post som pictures!! Sory if i make mistakes i am just learning english.

Nice thread, working on cooling my '97 LX450 with SC - in Phoenix. 105'F already this weekend.
