I recently installed a PDI intercooler to the rig with a buddy of mine. After looking at a bunch of forums and asking PDI/chat GPT how to resolve the vacuum piping, the glow plug light is finally off but I am still having this high pitch noise/whining/whistle coming from the bay. It doesn’t happen at idle anymore but screams once under load at around 1500-2K rpm range. I haven’t done a boost leak check and she seems to have a lot more power once repiping but the whistle/whine is still intense. We initially thought it was a vacuum issue but since most of that has been plugged or routed I’m wondering if it’s a boost leak or something worse. If anyone has installed the PDI intercooler to a 95 or newer 80 id love to hear your take or see if you have had similar experiences?

For reference here’s a couple videos of the noise.

It was not making this noise until after the install. Which included removing crossover and EGR system. Any insight would help. Thanks.

I don’t have an hdj80 or one with a pdi install but have owned quite a few turbo diesels.

Removing egr and piping and changing air flow path ie intercooler can definitely make turbos more noticeable. Any changes to the intake or such can make a big difference.

It’s also possible you have a boost leak as well so I would tighten up/reposition all hoses/clamps.
