Seeing the thimble just makes me want to spool a bunch of line off and use it to bean people. Very cool.
Just a thought...
Why would you use a plastic roller on synthetic line? This is possibly the WORST possible thing you can do. In rock climbing they teach you to never run a moving rope through a sling or allow the rope to come in contact with plastic during motion or stress. The rope creates HUGE amounts of heat and will eat through whatever its rubbing on.
Notice how ALL climbing hardware designed to slide on rope is steel, aluminum, or titanium?
And yes, the problem with any braided line, even cable, dirt can easily work its way into the internal fibers and weaken it from the inside out through constant use or vibration. The way climbers got past this, they switched to Kernmantle rope, it doesn't allow dirt into the interior nearly as easy as standard braided line.
