No problem with Lucas, but it's 40% more expensive than the Valvoline. I've had good success with all Valvoline products, and I'm getting tired of funding Lucas' extensive ad campaign.

It's fine to use. I used to use Lucas and never had issues but like you, switched to Valvoline about 10 years ago for my 8 work and fun trucks along with my 1961 Chris Craft. I've never had any issues and saved a lot of money.

I change those fluids often enough that I find it more practical to run SuperTech from Walmart. Many of us do. Have not seen any problems attributed to bad lubrication yet.

Thanks guys!

What @inkpot said.

I use whatever is cheapest. Change at least every 6 months. Usually more often.

The only potential issue would be if we were talking about fluid for a manual transmission with yellow metal in the syncros that was originally specd out with gl4 fluid.

Supposedly the extra additives in gl5 can harm those parts, and just to be safe when I was putting fluid into my Toyota manual transmissions I'd go through the effort of finding gl4.

Otherwise there's really nothing inside our transfer cases or diffs that should be harmed by LS additives. Plus gl5 is flat out better other than the possible yellow metals thing
