Truck stalled, fails to idle.

Background: driving BLM land, maybe 40 miles corrugations looking for campsites (a lot of back tracking due to fire gates/private property).

Noticed low oil pressure during this time. Immediately checked oil level; normal. No leaks that I can see, normal weep from valve cover. Truck preformed normally.

Another 20 miles paved roads to established campsite. Shut truck down. Set up camp.

Packed up camp, checked fluid levels. Started truck, oil pressure still shows low, idles fine. Drove about 100 yards, ABS light
Illuminates with warning tone. Truck stalls on slight incline (maybe 6%). Put in park shut it down. Check oil level still normal. Check electoral connections, unremarkable. Start it again, struggles to idle, will hold enough with slight throttle input. No ABS light/tone. Finish driving 20ft to parking area. Shuts down again.

Current status, pending a tow. Truck will turn over, will not hold an idle. Sounds/feels like all cylinders fire. No ABS light/tone. All electricals works fine. No codes/CEL.

Maintenance history: within 15k miles: fuel pump, fuel filter, pan, and radiator. All oem/denso. Otherwise unremarkable and up to date.

I’m thinking crank position sensor, maf sensor and/or cam position sensor. Thinking about replacing all the above plus oil pressure sensor. Any thing I’m missing? Additional thoughts/recommendations?

Truck is a 1998 with 370k miles. Pfa

Those Would all trigger CEL.

Sounds like vacuum/air leak to me.

I didn’t have my fsm with me, I did check the vacuum lines at the throttle body. Seemed fine. Any other area I should check?

Here is a snip of the vacuum hoses on the air box highlighted. Let me see if I can dig up the page of the ones that connect to the charcoal canister.

Awesome thank you! I will check it out!

Truck finally home. Not motivated at to look at it until the weekend 😐

Any grounds shake loose?

Unsure. Given the truck will, after sitting a few hours will turn over and barely idle for about 30 seconds. Shut down, then turn over but not idle I’m thinking vacuum, crank/maf sensor. What grounds should I look at first? (I’m not super savvy troubleshooting electrical).

Have you ever replaced the fuel pump/filter?

Update 1:

New MAF sensor in. No change.

I believe this is the crank sensor, but the plug orientation is wrong. Can someone confirm 1) that is in fact the crank sensor location? and 2) is that the correct new sensor PN?

As far as vacuum lines, they all seem intact but most are dried. I’m going to order all new vacuum lines and replace because it’s time.

Any other thoughts to what this could be?

Nic...here is where the crank position sensor is.

Right PN, wrong location. Its at the front of the engine, DS of the oil pump cover.

By my research of parts diagrams it is a transmission location sensor.

Agreed. Shot in the dark, but check the vacuum line that goes to the power steering pump. I think I recall those can become brittle and maybe the corrugations pushed it over the edge.
Yes, check those two power steering vacuum lines out, and check the vacuum valve also to make sure one of the little plastic connectors didn't break. I've also heard of those vacuum switches on the back of the power steering pump slitting in half at the diaphragm.

Besides that, check for leaks in the intake pipe downstream of the mass airflow sensor. I've developed leaks on other vehicles there. Sometimes you get a split on the bottom side of the pipe and you can't even see.

Idle air control valve with carbon build up at that mileage?

Just typing out loud. I've cleaned my throttle plate 2 or 3 times in 190K miles, and it's always carboned up and sticking.

I'd pull the spark plugs and inspect the spark coil boots

What should I be looking for? (I do have a weep on the valve cover gasket).
