Took in the LX today for an oil change and found the dreaded valley plate leak! When my mechanic is in there should anything else be replaced? Did the radiator and all belts, pumps and hoses last year.

Chees

It cost me about $1400 at the dealer last year for this. A mouse had chewed my knock sensor so that had to get replaced too but those are pretty cheap.

there’s not really much other PM that is recommended at the same time. Depending on mileage if they can do the heater hose T’s and hoses back there it might be wise, but very few people seem to report failures even at high mileage, unlike the 80 series guys. Ditto for the SAIS valves… if you are planning to use the Hewitt bypass it’s a good time to do it but overall not worth buying the kit just to install at this time since you can do it without removing the valley plate.

Removing the intake manifold is about a 20-minute job for someone that knows what they are doing, so not much benefit to tackling other things in there preemptively. Most of the labor for a valley plate leak is the SAIS and valley plate itself.

With the list of things you already have done I'd just tackle this job and drive on. And make sure they are using the updated sealant.

Agreed.

Mechanic came back with $1200….i think that is ver fair.
I paid $1400 total, including the $50 for the knock sensor harness a mouse had chewed on, so yeah I'd call that very fair.

FYI the sealant is more than $50
I just checked... $20.50 for the FIPG, $10.92 for an o-ring, $38.88 for 2 gaskets, plus 2 gallons of coolant. So the FIPG was <$50 but you're right the total parts were about $130. Anyway my point was just that you don't pay tax on labor, so there's some savings to paying cash but it's not huge. Regardless, mine was $1280 in labor plus parts, so tax or no tax $1200 sounds like a good deal to me.

One thing I'd consider adding to the list is replacing the engine foam as you're in there. Mine was a 2010 with 160k, and it was pretty shot. 2 pieces you can only get in and out after you've removed the manifold.
