Hi im new with the toyota and i was wondering what would be the easiest v8 to swap in my '79 toyota pickup it whas a 20r in it now. If anyone has advice please send it my way.

You'll have to define functional as well....
It all depends on your needs, your wheeling habits, your mechanical and electrical skills, whether or not the truck will see time on the street, etc.
Cheapest/easiest would likely be a complete 350/th350/NP205 combo out of a '70's Chevy. No frills, no EFI.
Most functional? That's a different story, I guess.
If I were doing a V8 swap, I garantee I'd do an 00-02 4.7 I-force V8 with Supercharger, headers, Toyota auto mated to a Marlin Ultimate as a first choice.
Second would be a tweaked 5.0 out of a mustang, backed by a Toyota R151 and Marlin Ultimate.
Third would be an LS1 backed by a 4L60e and Marlin Ultimate.
None would be "easy", all would be functional, all would be expensive.

well i got a '79 toyota hilux pickup and i was wanting a v8 to put in it. I am wanting it for off roading on the weekends and i was trying to find out what v8 would fit in my little r20 engine compartment. i want to find the cheapest way to do it. i have found a crysler 318 and was thinking about putting it in but that was going to get expensive. so if any of yall know a cheaper motor to use it would help alot.

Wheel it with the 20r... That's the cheapest option you have.
The engine isn't the expensive part - a v8 is a V8 is a V8. Putting it in the truck is where the $$ comes in.
Most engine swaps run into the multi-thousands. I have over $4200 into my 4.3 V6 swap.

318 Crapper. What a piece of #$%. Can't just find a Toy 3.4 V6 for cheap and throw it in? Or a Chevy 4.3 v6? Or at least use a Chevy V8...

I was looking at a 1990 V6 toyo minitruck. It's got the 3VZ-FE motor with a rod knock. So IW as looking at a rebuilt motor to swap in. Oh My GOD... We're talkign 7-10k for a rebuilt motor.
I found a new crate LS-1 with ECM and wiring harness for $5901.

Add a bellhousing adapter
exhaust system and motor mounts
and I think you'd be good for under $10,000 witha BRAND NEW 320 hp motor.

Screw the v8 and put a built 22r in it with a weber carb, headers and flowmasters. You get plenty of power, toyota reliability and it sounds like a v8

What is the difference between a 20R and a 22R?
Different heads, different stroke, same block IIRC, 2.4L displacment as opposed to 2.less,=more HP more torque. Thats mostly it but I think aftermarket parts are a little easier to come by than for a 20r
And the 22r is going to be a lot cheaper, a lot less labor intensive and a lot less of a headache when its all said and done.

The wife has a 22r in her mini and has no complaints. Niether do I and i have to work on it, I should say not work on it.

ok guys i have found an '83 toyota mini just like mine but its long bed and the motor is covered in a huge rat nest. does anyon know what motor should be in it?

IT should be a 22r and the rats nest is all vaccuum junk.
