Thats cool... My vulgar implication is aimed at the law not you texican. The law is a sensitive issue for me. Its my hobby and I dont need some cop with a burr up his rear whining about my pipes. My rig gets trailered b/c I push it hard and try to break when at play so I am seeing less road miles. If I were building this machine to travel america I would attempt to comply with the law.

there's a song i heard once ;) says something like "i fought the law and the, law won, i fought the law and the, law won!" :D

Back to business,

I am working the throttle cable, tranny kickdown and additional TPS sensor. The factory GM linkage wil not work. I mocked it up and it only moves the butterflies to about half throttle. I am making new linkages to similar dimensions of the OEM toyota. I found out the toyota linkages are heat treated and brittle so thats why new ones are in the works. These little details are the ballbusters of the project. This stuff would be very difficult to make without all the fab & machining equipment I have.

The coolant & heater hoses are almost done. I have cannibalized anything form the old motor that I cn use. For instance, I cut several pcs out of the factory egr pipes to use for metal heater hoses in areas that a rubbing prone.

I bent the factory tranny dipstick to fit around the new engine and cut off the tabs and repositioned. the handle is near the master cylinder and bolts up nice.

Pics of my A/C hose challenges and Engine compartment paint job. I am cuttinng up the Toyota and Gm a/c hoses and tig welding them together to make a adapted hose. I will be putting the motor back in and starting the final assembly. I have a lot to do and test before CMCC 06.

I AM TIRED OF LOOKING AT THE 1FZ ENGINE SOMEONE MAKE ME AN OFFER AND COME AND GET IT OUT OF MY SHOP! 166k RUNS GREAT.
I ALSO HAVE A 6 MONTH OLD ALTERNATOR AND POWER STEERING PUMP (TOYOTA OEM) THAT I WANT TO SELL.

I took the motor in an out 2 more times doing final fit up's. I discovered that the access hole to get the torque convertor bolts in and tight sucks. I choose to machine 6 holes in the flywheel to be able to install and properly tighten each bolt. This worked out great. I am having my doubts about the adapter. Marks omitted a few key bolts from the original mounting pattern b/c the interference with the holden pattern ( the adapter can accept a chevy or holden engine.) I will find out soon if they have enough bolts between the adapter and the tranny.

Slow but sure I am getting there. A few more plumbing related items left then on to wiring.

I have done 2 LT1 conversions on 80s both using the stock tranny.

Dare I even ask if someone provided the motor what a conversion like the one in your picture would cost?

If all the parts were supplied the labor would be $5000 min I have more than 100 hours in this.

Just now stumbled on this thread. Impressive and fun to watch. Wish I had the resources and skills to go this route back when I did mine. I went WAY conservative for fear of building something that would be unreliable. Also, didn't know Gary C as well then or I would have drug his butt into the project too... :-) Looking good, Kirk.

How goes this project? !'m considering a similar swap on my '92 and am anxiously awaiting another update. Thanks!!!

I have been chipping away at the wiring. I expect to turn the key soon. The wiring is the final stretch. There are a few sensors and misc pcs still trickling in. As I have said before and will say a million more times, it is a ton of work and a big commitment to do any swap right.

I understand the complexities of an engine swap, having done this 4.3 into my Toyota truck. And, yes, the TBI is much simpler than the LT1. Just curious for information.

About ready to fire the engine. I will be ready tomorrow, but will delay the formal ceremony until saturday. Dont know what the transmission will do yet, but if all goes to plan with the engine I will be test driving and installing the extreme valve body.

If any of you Ohioan's would like to come visit saturday we (Kirk, Tim, etc (Beno will have his usual b/s excuse!) will be around. There will be Beer, pizza etc. If all goes well I may smash a 40 of colt 45 or lazer on the arb to celebrate my 80 is back on the road. More to come picture wise and I will make a link to a video so you can hear its rumble.

Kirk

looking forward to that.

I was curious how this was coming along. Can't wait to hear more about it.

That is in writing Beno no BS!

Gary, Sunray must know what it takes to do it right. If I was unable to do the work myself I would expect this to be a fair labor price.

Place your bets everyone. The key will turn today. I hope to be posting tonight saying it started.

Well it finally runs. After chasing my tail a bit yesterday I found that painless wiring did not have a tach filter in place which took the thunder out of my spark. Today I snipped the tach wire and she started right up.

It is really loud in my garage now, perhaps too loud. She has the typical SBC rumble! One leak to fix up at the heater piping. The power steering feels sweet! I modified the stock corvette pump before install. I ported it for more flow and added some shims to increase the operating pressure. She moves in forward and reverse, dont know about shifts yet.

I am having a fuel supply problem and need ideas from you guys out there with supra fuel pumps etc. Clownmidget, Gary, Jowett, Cdan etc please chime in! With the motor not running I turn the key and the fuel pump primes to about 34psi as it should. When the motor starts the fuel pressure drops off to about 10psi then bounces back and forth. It will not maintain a steady 34 psi like I need it to even at idle. The stock toyota pump should have no issues making this engine idle. I will need a supra pump for WOT operation. My guess is the fuel pump resistor is fouling it all up? I might make it go bye tomorrow. Also, I have a supra pump pn# about how much is it?

Thanks

Kirk

I would guess that what is happening at idle is related to the resistor. An easy test would be to connect a jumper lead from 12v to fuel pump +. I have left the resistor off by accident before and the truck would start right up, then die after a few seconds.
