After some on road time and tuning I have decided to scrap out the factory transmission electronics. It runs great, but I am having unresolvable kickdown and upshift issues. I am installing a aftermarket programmable tranny control module that will allow me to control upshifts downshifts lockup etc. In fact the factory ECT button will even work. The control has dual mode programming so I can make a "street" and "offroad" program that will be swapped when the ect button is pushed.

More to come, Thanks to all that are helping me!

Kirk

Nice.

With the new control unit, you can now race the ricers and go extra low off road....

Can't wait to race a ricer!

I ran a shakedown today in wellsville. I am blown away by the extra power. no major problems just a few tweaks to make (thermostat problem and a annoying rub when twisting). the stock tcu is still running the tranny and i will be cutting it out and putting in the pcs unit soon.

Beno will be posting pictures soon.

***Two theories I confirmed today is for tight/crawling situations there is no substitute for crawler gears and a manual clutch can be finessed better than a torque converter. Marks cruisercrawler is going to happen next!!!!

Kirk, do you have the converter lock up feature on your re-worked tranny? Every time I bounce around the idea of ditching the auto for a manual I keep thinking maybe the auto with a torque converter lock up coupled with the crawler box would solve any problems. I assume you'll be trying to do the marks crawler box without or with a bodylift?

Congrats on getting that beast out and on a trail - been a long journey

When I put the pcs box in I am going to have the O/D button be the converter lockup instead. The o/d button will be relocated to the dash. the ect button when pressed will change to a alternate shifting program that will be more low range friendly. I am definetely doing the marks box without the lift. I will re contour the floor and gas tank to clear.

So, Kirk had the 80 out today in Wellsville, OH (our local playground).

I must say that without a doubt the V8 is THE correct engine for the 80 series.

It was amazing to see Kirk crawl, climb, push and basically conquer all the terrain he faced. And there was some tough terrain....

Amazing speed, amazing torque, and amazing power to get the truck over obstacles, hills, sheer walls, wet stuff, muddy stuff, etc.

A few small bugs as Kirk mentioned, but I think that he has reached a state of nirvana (christ, I almost did watching him do what he did today)....

Now, on to the pics....

And a few more....this obstacle is called "Axle alley" for all of the axles it claims. None today...

Kirk and Tim (landwagon) checking out the V8 after the run.

And the last set....this is a hell of a steep climb with shale-ee rocks, dirt, looseness, and a very steep angle. Kirk just walked up it withsome bumps like it was nothing....

Awesome!!

Thnx for sharing the pix. So what is the final setup as far as the engine and tranny?

The engine is a stock 1995 corvette.

the tranny the A442F with a extreme valve body and soon to be pcs control system.

Install looks great. The 80s really respond to the LT1 don't they.....I am working on redoing my 62 again with a 6.0/4L80E. 502 is a waste of torque.

Watcha mean? Not diggin the 502 anymore?

Have you modifed your exhaust end or it's still sticking out under the slider? Some pix would be nice. I guess it sounds like a corvette now. I am always a fan of a quiter exhaust, unless it's a diesel :D. Looks like you have 6" lift, is that required for this engine?

I had to change the first muffler out b/c it was way too loud at WOT and cruising speed. Switched to a flowmaster big block 50 series 3 chamber. Good move happy with the sound now... I have not yet routed the pipe from the muffler to the outside yet b/c I am unsure about what I am going to do to the stock fenderlips.

Right now it is not stinky inside surprisingly. I figured I would get poisoned, but i smell zero fumes.

on the 6" lift question. One could put the v8 in a stock high vehicle no prob. Only area of concern would be driveshaft /exhaust routing.

That's a great muffler. I used it when I did custom headers on my 1FZFE. I reduced down to 1 high flow cat and increased to 3" tubing which is why it was still a little loud, especially on the freeway. I bought a baffle from Jegs that takes about 1 pony. Huge difference in din. Now it is quiet at freeway speeds and around the neighborhood but it opens up nicely when wot is applied.

Really nice work. Very clean.

I'd have to finish the 40's swap before I even think of tackling the 80.

Well the video action has been put off b/c of work. Very busy right now. I am about to wire in my transmission control which should complete the project. the overheating issue is solved. I hope to post up more soon.
