lookin at an 88 4 rnr, v-6 m/t. any one got any feed back on the inchworm adapter to change out the transfer case? all i have heard is that the v6 t-case is junk... any help would be appreciated.

I dont know where you heard that but 1: they arent junk, yeah its not gears
but youll never break one unless you like to run youre t.case w/o oil in it.

2: It has a lowER ratio than the gear and the adapter is $$$ (wasted) if the dealer has it in stock, A.A (Advanced Adapters) has or had one last time (years ago) I checked, find a turbo 5sp. trans  its got the adapter youre looking for and the same one others will sell you, Iron, the chain case is also lighter, but unfortunetly no aftermarket for it.

3: In my experience this is all null and void if someone has gone into the case!!

Again AA's is the same adapter Toyota will sell you (they told me)

R-151, a V6 trans w/ 4cly bell housing, lower 1st (2nd & 3rd) gear and gear drive t.c

It's not junk.... it's just chain driven and weaker than the gear driven cases..... I don't know much about the adapters, but Marlin may sell them as well...

I also agree, I've heard it said that the usual failure in a chain drive case is lack of oil.

Toyota chain drive, NO PROBLEMS, but I wouldent run one in a comp rig ;).

Marlin will tell you all you need to know. (and then some)

R-151's can be converted into R-150's if you got the $$$

I run an R151. Yes it will bolt right up to a geared tcase, but that is the most expensive way to go - if you can even find one.

Toyota does not sell a geared tcase adapter to make with the R150 (transmission that mates with the chain tcase). These are sold by Marlin, Advance, Inchworm, and another that escapes me right now. If your transmission is good and you want to lower your transfer case gearing this is what you need.

I am not sure why someone would want to turn an R151 into an R150. This would mean swapping the rear case, but for what? They are nearly identical anyway. First gear is lower in the R151 with the resulting slower shifting; you give a little and get a little. The later (96+) R150s are smoother shifting FWIW. Now, turning an R150 into an R151 would be dandy, but the parts to do so would be scarce as hen's teeth.
