For those of you who have an ARB compressor, can it be used to inflate an air mattress while camping?

These pumps run on high pressure, low volume. You want low pressure, high volume.
Yes, but how you going to hook it up?

Small D-battery mattress pump from Wal-Mart will do the trick with minimal fuss, low noise and super cheap. Look in "camping" section... And...it won't wake up the entire camp in the middle of the night when air cools/contracts and you want to add more air in the middle of the night. :)

I know this doesn’t really address the originals question. But...

Exped MegaMat 10

If you can fit a big old air mattress, this, is, the best camping bed, IN THE WORLD!!!!

If the pack size is too big, check out the new Exped MegaMat Lite. Also a solid performer.

There are cheap hand pumps like old bike pumps that don't need batteries that work really well.
Problem I see using the ARB is having to move the mattress to proximity of vehicle to pump it
up. the messing around creating a connection point on the vehicle for this. Unless you already have
a connection point created for filling tires?
Lots of sites the tent is not very close to the car. If any rain, then that's another issue.

What @Taco2Cruiser said. Exped MegaMat 10.
I have that exact bed and it is truly awesome. Once you're on it, you can easily let out just enough air to make it optimally soft once your body weight is on it. Just make sure the deflate and inflate valves are the end your head is on, and you can make easy adjustments downward without worry of over-deflating due to it's double-release mechanism (when you get one, this will make sense).

Also...it fits PERFECTLY in the back if your have ARB-style drawers, and works on either side of the 60/40 seats since you can have the middle arm rest make the 40% seat the same fold-down platform as the 60% seat. It truly is perfect:

So, Mark, how does it work when your wife is with you? Looks like this mattress is too wide to do 2 across. Also noticed that you must be sleeping with your head toward the back of the LC. I’ve never tried that but it seems to make sense. Easier access to the tailgate open button we all had installed - especially when an old guy like me needs to vacate the truck in a hurry in the middle of the night. ;)

Ya, this is my Solo-Only setup. If we really HAD to, I've got a smaller one that will fit on the 40% side...but more likely, we'd either ben in a tent or a hotel.

When it's just me...I can keep the bed available even with all my gear in the truck. That's harder with two. I normally sleep with my head to the front. -It's just that I forgot to put the deflate/inflate that way for the photo. The slight upward angle created by the seats when folded down feels more natural to me. Also, it's easier getting in & out from the back feet-first. Finally, you can also reach the window button if sleeping head-forward. I keep a stick near me so that I can poke the ignition with it if I wan't to open or close the back window without getting out.

But back to sleep 2 back there...
-If we are somewhere potentially dangerous (like Alaska boonies), the other alternative is through the gear in a tent and sleep in the truck.

You CAN buy an Exped that's a double wide, and it DOES fit...but I don't recommend sharing a larger Exped, because whenever you shift your weight, you'll sendup lifting/bouncing your wife around. Better to get a separate mattress that fits next to this one. :)

Expeds are nice. Just buy a patch kit with it. My exped sprung a leak on a couple of occasions. Waking up at 2am to a deflated mattress is a ton of fun.
How’d you do that? I used my MegaMat on Bradley ramps and gun truck roofs in combat. Sharp bolts and hate never could pop it.

They now make a MegaMat Outfitter that is super tough for guides and people who like to pop children’s balloons.

I just picked up the new MegaMat lite in 25”x77”. It packs to 1/3 the size, and is almost as comfortable. More air mattress like though, versus the original MegaMat which feels like my bed at the house.

You sleep with your Hi-Lift?

Cool. 25’ x 77” is a great size to fit side by side on top of the drawers. Definitely going to do this!

I sleep in an Alu-Cab, but I wouldn't hesitate a minute having an ARB compressor serve as mattress duty. That pump can run for 20 minutes under full load inflating 35s. Inflating the air mattress would be no problem. If a $500 compressor is worn out or misused by that duty then it isn't much of a product. Overlanding equipment space is always at a premium, every tool must serve double-duty.
