The Toyota dealer genius over-filled my oil this morning. I gave him 10 quarts of Mobile 1 Synthetic and noted that he put 8 in.

I went back and got the entire service for free. After letting the truck sit, it is 1/4" above the full line.

Is this amount something to be concerned with? Can I siphon some out of the fill hole?

Driving a hour to the dealer is not an option right now; however there is an American tire down the street I trust.

put your man pants on
get under it
drain a quart
replace plug.

Seriously though, this is unfortunately why I avoid the dealer at all costs. I took mine in for the 90k for the pure reason of the motor work being warrantied. The idiots must have used an air gun to torque every single bolt they touched, and I mean torqued to like 1000 ft lbs. The diff plugs are supposed to be torqued to 35 ft lbs per the FSM, I needed a three foot breaker bar to bust the plugs loose...

Some will drain towards the end of the threads, this, along with filling it up with gas, are the easiest things you can do on your rig.

Not a big deal IMO. You may get ever so slightly lesser mileage due to crank windage losses, but even that is questionable with the oil level being only a ¼” higher.

If you’re set on correcting the oil level, be ready to do a full oil change. I don’t think you’re going to be able to drain only 1 quart. It’s all or nothing as it pours our hard and fast. Unless you like making a mess . Siphoning is an option if you have an appropriate pump the right diameter hose.

just make sure the engine is cool and be ready for a little mess. prettysure i've pulled the plug and been able to get it back in without draining too much.

For 1/4" over you might want to leave it. There may be a little bit of added windage as TeCKis300 says, but even that is doubtful at 1/4" over. Nothing bad will happen at this level. At 1" over you would seriously need to dump or pump some out.

take an empty quart of oil and fill it with water, pour it into your oil drain pan and mark the level with a sharpie. repeat the process until you have marked graduations on your oil drain pan.

pour the water out and put the pan under your 100, slowly back the oil drain bolt out until it starts to drain (wear gloves). once you reach the first quart marking in your pan tighten the drain bolt back down, and check the dipstick.

repeat until you get it where it needs to be. bonus: now you can start exchanging your tranny fluid since you know how much you've drained each time and can refill it correctly. or you can pay your retarded dealer some insane amount of cash and pray he doesn't screw up again.

Need to and get to are two different things...lol

If you live in Dallas, I can pump some out for you with a marine pump I use to change the oil in some of my vehicles.

EDIT: Never mind, New Jersey.

As said, 1/4" is nothing to worry about. You might get nearly that by removing and draining the oil filter's contents.

Good idea. It's gonna be messy either way, but I think this is the best advice. You could do it twice if you needed to. (You'd have to do it once, replace the filter, start your truck for a minute, shut it off, then do it again)

I am curious. Where are you going for an 8000 mile trip? And which dealer was this so I know who to avoid?

One more dumb question...how tight should the filter be put on?
