Congressional Committee Voting to Bar BLM Conservation Leasing Rule

Today The House of Representatives Rules Committee will be meeting to debate and vote on Representative John Curtis’ H.R. 3397 – [Western Economic Security Today Act of 2024]. This act will bar the Bureau of Land Management’s Landscape Health and Conservation Rule.

This rule proposes prioritizing conservation on BLM land through a new scheme of selling “conservation leases.” This is a backdoor attempt to sell out our public land to the highest bidder to achieve the goals of the 30×30 agenda to lock up our public lands. The highest bidder for these leases will likely be well-funded environmental groups who will use the leases to restrict all other uses within the leased area such as recreation, mining and grazing.

We need you to contact your members of Congress today and tell them you emphatically support H.R. 3997!

Done. Thank you!

Got the email earlier this morning but had forgotten about it, thanks for the reminder!

UPDATE:

Your calls and messages made a difference

Earlier this week, we encouraged you to contact The House of Representatives Rules Committee to encourage support for Representative John Curtis’ H.R. 3397 – [Western Economic Security Today Act of 2024]. This legislation will bar the Bureau of Land Management’s Landscape Health and Conservation Rule.

With strong support from public land users, the Bill passed out of the Committee, and shortly after that, it received a vote on the House Floor. With continued strong support from public land users - including BRC members responding to our call to action - the legislation was passed by the House.

We would like to thank the thousands of you that reached out to your members of Congress to support this effort! This was a major step forward.

Now the legislation will head to the Senate, so we need you to continue sharing your concerns about the BLM’s conservation leasing rule with your Senators. Also, please forward this message to others who share our love for adventure on public lands.

IF you havent already:

WHO ELSE GOT THIS EMAIL? lol

Dear Mr. Thies,

Thank you for contacting me regarding S. 1435. I value your point of view and appreciate the opportunity to respond.

As you may know, Senator John Barrasso (WY) introduced S. 1435 on May 3, 2023. It would require the Bureau of Land Management to withdraw its Conservation and Landscape Health Rule. Following its introduction, S. 1435 was referred to the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources for further consideration. As a member of this committee, please be assured I will continue to monitor its progress and will keep your thoughts in mind should it come to a vote.

Again, thanks for contacting me. It is my number one priority in the Senate to represent the values and interests of the people of Montana, and your input is very helpful as I do. I invite you to visit my website, www.daines.senate.gov, for updates about activities in Washington that affect our lives in Montana or to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you again in the future.

Sincerely,
