Well - I have a TLCA number, Ive paid my club dues - and as of yesterday - Im the proud owner of a 1974 FJ40..she has already been christened as MeJane .. based on an observation of the awesome guy who towed it for me from Sanford NC (once I find his business card - Id definitely recommend him!) He said he'd only seen a vehicle like 'her' in a Tarzan movie..

I have to say all this AND throw in the fact that I got hit by an old Jeep Cherokee Friday morning..guy decided to do an illegal U turn and smacked right into my regular car..no one was hurt..and he was assessed all blame ..I have to also say - I got hit by a Jeep Wrangler in the SAME car six months ago - traveling down the highway - a guy pulled out from a side road right into my passenger side.

Needless to say - Jeeps are officially curse words in this house.

We bled the clutch today, ..and my mental list of all the 'to-do' items grows every second..Im a bit unsure of what to do first.

Im pretty sure Ill switch out the tires for something smaller..(I bent the right rear wheel well coming out of a ditch on the maiden voyage..)
The oil pressure gauge is not functioning - but the 2F that is in it runs..
You all have been awesome..I hope I dont become a pain in the behind -I like doing research..but Id love for one of yall to take a look.

Off the preliminary review here's what we see (in no particular order)
1. Ebrake doesnt work
2. Hardtop needs to be replaced - or fixed..not sure which one is the better idea...but Ill figure it out
3.Minor leak in transfer case (huz says its so minor, he'd label it as weeping - not leaking)
4. Possible leak in clutch..we bled it - looked it over - fluid is down again.
5. Battery needs a bracket so its anchored to something.
6. Drum Brakes - Ill want to convert to disc

These are NOT complaints - just observations - for being 36 years young - I think shes perfect.
I think I need a beer.

Glad to hear you found one. BURT88 was looking for used 33x12.5x15 in the For Sale/Wanted section on 6/21/12 if you're looking to do the tire swap quickly, not sure if he's still looking.

Here's a link to spend a few nights reading about gauges and such....

I seem to recall something about the Oil Pressure and Fuel gauges being related somehow but the detail escapes me.

Looks good. Glad you found a 40, but the problem is soon you will want more cruisers of different varieties...

yeah..I think the 'mudness' has already spread..I EXPRESSLY told my huz to wait until I got home today before he started on her - by the time I got home, he'd joined the forum, changed the oil and was waiting on me. :hhmm:

Congrats and as I have told others use the knowledge of this club. They are always willing to lend not only their knowledge but also their time.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

Congrats and welcome Sarca and MeJane

caution the above statements are true..........best of luck and enjoy the ride.

Congrats! That is a real clean 40 to start with, good work :D

Congratulations! She looks great!

Although I don't have it on mine, I hear a lot of guys say power steering is one of the best mods they've done. You might want to put that on the list right after the disc brake conversion.

Welcome aboard, and congrats on the new addition to the family!

Thanks to all of you - the last two days has been a reality check..I realized getting my 40 was much like getting married..and Im totally in love with my 40- regardless of how well I currently understand her..
However Ive begun to realize not having an actual garage is a handicap.Of course Im a hardheaded woman and insist working on my driveway- which provides more difficulty to the fact that Im not mechanically educated..so now I LIVE in the 40s tech FAQ. I have to research the research, so to understand certain things.
Ive always loved a good fight. Thank goodness.

I meant to do this^^^. Gotta figure out this computer machine and all of it's QUOTE making goodness.

Computers...now youre talking my comfort level!

And the the bright side of having no garage..at least my driveway is flat :D
Got the drum brakes adjusted, and NOW we're roadworthy..I drove her 12 miles to work and back today..that 2F sounds SWEET.

Im looking forward to the meeting on Friday! Thank God the heat is supposed to let up after tomorrow!
