@Racer65 Any chance you'd be sourcing some power steering lines to go with the pump?!
Great question. I'm glad you brought it up.
First let's backtrack a bit. As mentioned earlier , there are 4 basic variants of the PS pump:
44320-60020 (79 to 80 FJ40)
44320-60040 (81 to 82 FJ40)
44320-60071 (81 to 87 FJ40 and FJ60)
44320-60061 (81 to 87 non-US FJ40 and FJ60)

All pumps are the same except for the high pressure port size. Based on my research, you cannot get the high pressure lines for the 60020 and 60040 pumps anymore. The lines for 60071 / 60061 have been discontinued by Toyota as well; however, these lines are abundantly available aftermarket as:
  • Gates 358800 or
  • Edelmann 71210
For this reason, I will only proceed with the 44320-60071 / 44320-60061 pumps. These will be plug and play for all years of FJ60. If you have an original FJ40 with power steering, you will need to switch to the above 16 mm hose.

@ginmtb, if @Aloha Jen, passes, please let me know. I'm interested.

Sorry @Pierps someone beat you to them (not @Aloha Jen). Going to meet tomorrow for a local delivery. Interesting story, the guy actually looked at my cruiser when it was for sale and was there before me, but the seller said that two guys were en route to come check it out and that he would get it if neither of us were interested...

Stoked about the pumps. I love my FJ60 OEM power steering. I just spent some time working on a 40 with a Saginaw pump and I hate the whole package. OEM of the win. Thanks for producing this.

I will tell you the biggest hens tooth right now for power steering is the box. Even the Mini truck box used for conversion, they are almost impossible to find. An OEM FJ-40 Power Steering box reproduction would kill it.

There is a thread on making your own box by buying an OEM housing (still available for $$$) and install the guts from a mini-truck box.

I have an OEM box if you need one

I wish there's a way to convert the AC controller from 24V to 12v...maybe with some @Coolerman magic.

Depends on what's inside the box. ;)

Open it up and shoot a pic of the guts.

Thank you. I dont I was Just saying that if Roger had a line on having cool stuff made this is something that’s gotten very hard to find and with all these $60,000/$200000 builds popping up those guys are going to want power steering

@wngrog they may not if top priority is originality. As for me, no problems with no PS on my '78. Kudos to Roger on this once again for folks searching!

@Racer65 any word on the availability of the ps pump or a timeline? I’ll be needing one for my Fj60 when they are ready to go

The estimate is April. The first production run takes a while to set up. After that it'll be available on an on-going basis.

First, I want to reiterate what countless others have already said. Thank you so so so much for taking on this business endeavor. I want to buy you a beer.

Now, I'm thumbing through pages of this thread hoping to have my question answered but don't see anything so I figured I'd ask... has there been any progress on the BJ42LX sliding window repro parts? I can live with my existing outer rubber until you make a replacement and I see you now have the inner rubber seal on your website... but I'm still trying to source the double flocking/glass channel for inside the frame. Just curious!

Thanks again for all you are doing for our community!

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, every piece of weatherstrip for this type of window is near production. @koxfarm performed testing last month, and we're making a few final tweaks.

These back door spacers are now in production. Should be available next month.

Roger, Some time in the future how about giving the rest of us mortals a little insight into how you come up with those reproduction parts and the process it takes for them to come to market. I for one am very interested. Your parts are the best and your customer service is as good and I look forward to what you come up with in the future.

Production is now being planned. There are a few variants we can make. The above model is 44320-60040. Definitely there will be a non-U.S. version (44320-60061) with the reservoir port on the opposite side.
The pumps will use high quality HNBR rubber seals. The goal is not just replicating the original, but to make it stronger and less leak prone by leveraging modern materials, all for under $200.
The "weakness" in the FJ60 PS pumps has been the bushing wear. Unlike the FJ62 pumps, which use a bearing, the rebuilds don't last. Will the new design replace the bushing with a bearing?

A very fair question. Too often the repop guys make exact copies, which include all the original design flaws.

Poser and I had a long discussion about this when AA designed the Orion tc utilizing the stock output shaft, whose design tolerances allowed for it to pop out of gear. Hence the ‘fix’ of the stepped thrust washers.
