Hi, lurked for a while as I restored a 71 or 2 FJ45 ute, and as happens I got offered another. It's a New Zealand assembled 1969 45 but the bit I'm curious about is the tray, I've never seen another the same. My guess is it was built by the NZ assemblers, Steel Bros in Christchurch.
If anyone could confirm this or has seen a genuine Toyota tray the same it would be appreciated.

I vaguely remember HJ's having a bed like that in Africa

I think you guys are onto something - had a look at South African 45s. Mine doesnt have the lower seam along the side but very similar in many respects - only 2 tailgate hinges, flat panel around wheelarches, look like theyre made in a pressbrake, not a die.
Thanks

Hi Jestlurnin - the tray on yours is the same as the 72 I've restored, the older one has no curves or raised lip around the arches, all corners are welded as opposed to spots - just looks a lot more basic. Will post a couple of side by side pics when things get a bit quiter here
