What are people doing with the undercarriage while restoring an fj40? Originally the underside of fenders, bed, etc was painted to match the body of the vehicle but it seems very impractical. I really like how it looks but don’t want to cringe each time I hear a rock hit the underside. Any solutions? Anyone tried to powder coat to match body color? Thanks in advance.

Monstaliner can be color-coded, is DYI, and offers a tougher coating than paint.

I’ve seen several 40s and 55s done recently with Lizard Skin. It can be tinted and apparently has some insulation/ sound deadening properties. I have not personally tried it yet but probably will.

Yeah…Lizard Skin may be better. @wngrog has used it with success
