I have been thinking about this for a little while and did a search and came up with nothing but has any one installed lights under the dash thats connected to the doors. the one center light just isn't enough for the front seats for me.

edit: 3pits below is correct (I deleted my original answer). Power goes from battery to fuse to dome light to door switches to ground. This makes wiring new lights a little more difficult. If you try to splice more lights into the existing circuit with lights in series, then the lights would be less bright. You would have to tap into 12V and wire the new lights in parallel with the dome light to get them be bright.

However, have you thought about upgrading your stock bulb with LED? do a search.

When I use my truck for camping and such I find that a lot of the time the doors are left open. Consequently, I generally leave my dome lights switched off and turn them on manually when I need them. Something to think about if you're going to add more lights activated by doors being open.

I Think the door switch actually breaks ground to aftivate the light, I had mine apart today and it seems like when it is open (at rest, door open) it touches the houseing that is screwed into the body,,,thus making a gound contact,, let me know if I see this wrong

anyway, I am in th processof wiring led light in the vehicle,, not sure where (front and back) and leds under my hood so I can see what i am doing at night, and some mounted into the lift gate so I can see while cooking on the tail gate, and of course while trying to go to sleep/set up camp in the back of my 62, or just looking for something I know I packed but cannot find,, I will have some LEDs in the cargo area of my 62, I will be looking for a stripped 62 so I can see if there are any covered mounting screwholes or places so I can attach my lights up high on the ceiling,,, those should be in next week, ill post back

I found some cheap dome lights $2.25 each at advance auto and wired these to the same circuit that the over head light iare on. they come on with the doors but cant be turned off by the over head light. each light has a little switch that they can be turned off if you want to leave the doors open.

thats pretty spiffy

On a related note . . .
I have been thinking about using a small LED to illuminate the lower middle section of the dash (i.e. where the rear wiper control buttons are). This light would be on whenever the headlights are on.

Am I the only one that is driven crazy because those buttons aren't illuminated? I figure just a nice ambient glow would be enough (maybe even a red LED) - nowhere near as bright as my TASKLEDS, but just enough to know which button I'm pushing at night.
