So on my 100 series, I got joints from cruiserparts.net. I ordered the aftermarket replacement GMB joint initially, and when I finally got around to doing it, the joint's wouldn't fit. The caps were too big and every time I pressed them, they wouldn't press in and would always turn and get cock-eyed in the hole. Took it took a machine shop and had them check if it just needed cleaning up a bit and they said the joints are just wrong. Last week I called them, awesome service, and they sent me new joints. Fast forward to today, took the joints to the shop, and still same issue. Anyone run into this? And it's not that the clearances are extremely tight, its the joint caps measure a few thousandths larger than the yoke hole as well as the lengths measure longer. Anyone else have any issues? I really don't want to have to pay $500 for another prop shaft....

Half the price and they guaranteed them as a very solid replacement. That is my next option I suppose but if they measure wrong too, idk what I'll do.

There are several different part numbers just for 98-02 years... Depending on production date.

I wouldn't mess with anything other than OEM for these. I've done trail fixes due to people choosing the low cost alternative

That was my main and really only reason for going this route is I don't wheel mine. It's a tow/ski vehicle. It may see a dirt trail and that's all.

Yes, there are no after market options for the front ujoints. If it if the front that is giving you trouble they prob sent you rears for the front.

Yep, same thing that happened to me. I think I almost ruined my front yolks trying to press them in. The auto parts store kept telling me they were wright.

Measure the cap diameter and cross width…. I have a single factory front joint for a 100, but there are several different units, and the box from this one is long gone.
I was advised by my Land Cruiser guru to ONLY get OE joints. He said the other ones he's tried over the years (apparently from different sources) rarely fit.......guess he was right.
Coincidentally, yesterday was the day I replaced the rear joints on mine with OE. The original ones were finally done at 299,107 miles.
I doubt I'll still be driving this one at 600,000 miles, but that's still a return on investment I can live with.

I guess I'll have to go with OE then. I have to wait until Monday to call cruiser parts since they never called me back yesterday and they're closed all weekend. Hopefully they make this right and I can finally get mine back on the road after 2 weeks down...
Glad I searched.... my persistent low speed rotational noise was diagnosed - with 90% certainty - as a u joint. I was wondering if OEM was the way to go. Check that answer off the list! Always appreciate the wealth of knowledge and info here.
I'm getting them done on Monday by my regular (not Toyota but very trusted) shop I've dealt with for more than 30 years. Are there any LC quirks I should mention to them for the install?

Did my rears yesterday. Got Matsuba joints from Kurt @cruiseroutfit. He showed me the OE joints he had, they're pretty much identical castings. As has been stated, no one makes an aftermarket for the front, OE only, for 98-02. They were only on the front ds of the 100, not shared with any other vehicle. After that the fronts are available aftermarket. Nothing special about replacing them, unless they've run dry and are rusty, then be prepared for a fight and maybe destroying an 11/16 socket.

My fsm lists around 9-10 possibilities.
I need to correct that...FSM shows two different bearing cap sizes, depending on whether or not there's a drill mark at the end of the u-joint, and 10 or so different ring thicknesses...similar to selecting a locking ring on the end of the front axle. I'm thinking if I ever need new u-joints that the prop shafts get dropped off at the dealer.

Glad to hear they worked out nicely for you. As noted we don't have an aftermarket FRONT option for the 98-02 but we do stock the OEM option (Part# UJ60050) and of course the rears which fit all 100's (& 200's too). Offerings shown here:

I have an 05 LC and looking at the parts fiche, there are 2 different OEM part numbers available, priced about $10 apart. Both part numbers are listed in the front & rear diagrams: 04371G, 04371H when you drill down both indicate "rear fitment", both applications apply to my model year.

0437160070- applies to more models and more model years (96 variants) and is lower priced.
On my 05 100 series, I thought that the fronts & rears were interchangeable. But after calling the dealer, parts guy said 0437160060 was for the front, and 0437160070 for rear. I gave him the VIN to double check.
Does anyone know what the differences are? Could these the same application but from different vendors so different part code and price?

Bringing back this thread since I need to order u-joints for the rear driveshaft of a 1999 Land Cruiser. While we had it up on my friend's lift yesterday to bleed the brake fluid and replace the front diff fluid he noticed some play in the driveshaft.
My first choice is OEM but need to confirm part #s - is this correct # for a rear driveshaft of a 1999 Land Cruiser: 04371-60051? If so, the least expensive I can find them on the web is about $56/ea.
If I can't get them here in time to install for an off-road trip next Saturday I will most likely get the Matsuba's via @cruiseroutfit if they have them in stock. How are they holding up in your LC @Trunk Monkey?
