It's with a heavy heart that I'm selling my 1989 FJ62, but life has a funny way of making you make the choices you don't want to make.
In November, when I bought it, I flew from Dallas to Boise and drove it back solo, I was in a rut and needed an adventure; this was my adventure (it was awesome). Before buying it I had the compression checked and all came back in spec. I don't recall the numbers, but I'm sure they are in my post history. I'm going to be as upfront about everything because I love this community and this is a good vehicle, perfect for someone who wants something they can drive and work on a little at a time.
****$4,500******
In Lewisville TX (suburb of Dallas)
1989 FJ62
Two Tone Beige/Grey
242,XXX miles
All stock except for aftermarket wheels and (crappy) stereo.
The Good:
The Engine runs really well.
Newly rebuilt starter
New Battery
New Fuel Pressure Regulator
New Oil Pan Gasket
Valve job done by Cruiser specialist in January
New Fuel Pump (1 year ago)
New Distributor cap, plugs, and wires (1 year ago)
A/C - blows cold (R134a 1 year ago)
Transmission shifts smooth and shown no signs of issues
Power Windows roll up and down great (just installed new switches)
Power locks work but will stick
Power mirrors both move fine
4WD works both high and low
Zero frame rust, it lived its life in Oregon, Idaho, and now Texas.
I can't reiterate enough that it runs really strong, I'm just a one banana mechanic but I took it to a local cruiser specialist who looked it over and he agreed that the drivetrain is good. I drove this thing cross country without ever having driven it before and it ran like a champ until a few hoses cracked in the cold weather (now fixed).
The Bad
I might as well start with the worst. I believe there is a loose or frayed wire to the fuel pump. On wet (overly dewy to a drizzle) mornings it won't start; turns fine but fuel doesn't get to the engine, can't hear fuel pump running. I have not been able to pinpoint it, but believe I have eliminated numerous other possibility. Once it dries out or if it's a beautiful day...starts fine every time and runs great.
-It needs a good and proper baselining that I haven't had the time to get to. I've done the oil pan gasket and that is it. When I bought it the oil pan gasket was extremely loose with a pretty good leak and the engine bay was super dirty.
-Needs front axle seals. I have checked and maintained levels of grease/diff oil accordingly but it is leaking and should be done
-Paint is in average condition with normal scratches for the majority of the vehicle. The very front vertical part of the hood has numerous paint chips as if it drove behind a sand truck for too long.
-Front bumper - it's bent (not too horribly) and probably needs to be replaced.
-Chrome is peeling on the grill, but plastic is in great shape and could be painted black. Chrome on passenger mirror is bubbled.
-Surface rust - 3 areas. Above the driver side rear wheel centered above the wheel, around the 4WD emblem on the tailgate, and on the passenger fender by the vent.
-Standard seat wear. Font seats have holes in the normal spots, they currently have seat covers. Rear seat is in average shape.
-gas gauge doesn't work, needs a new fuel sender unit.
-Needs brackets to mount the stereo (I've completely rebuilt the dash as it was in very bad shape, I haven't picked the stereo brackets up yet).
-2 small leaks - one oil (very small, been parked in front of my house and i'm not getting oil stains) and one transmission fluid (it's weeping slowly out of the hose connector under the radiator very slowly).
-a dent in the lower portion of the passenger doors. Not horrible, most people don't see it unless they are looking for it. I believe it should be able to be popped out.
I think I've covered everything, but I may have forgotten something. I'll work on getting some more/better pictures up in the next couple of days.
